A strange look came over Nova's face followed by an awkward blush as Ophelia detailed Miss Dempsey's dedication to poetry, romance, and dying alone. Although she'd been averse to spinsterhood, she could understand Miss Dempsey's point of view entirely. Personally she thought being a young widow was a little more romantic, the ominous black garments and the veil... She had always gravitated to very light colors for dressing but there was something exceptional about black crepe.

"I- I couldn't say. I don't think so. I mean I do not believe he's looking particularly that way, but if..." Miss Dempsey as a sister-in-law would be... She bit her lip and forced herself away from that line of thought, she really shouldn't have mentioned Miss Dempsey in the first place, what was she doing? "I'm not sure what I was thinking." She was thinking selfishly again was what.

Ophelia waved her hand dismissively at Nova's misgivings. "It's the most natural thing in the world to want a dear friend to become your sister-in-law. Before I met Mr. Devine there were times I nearly convinced myself I fancied your brothers, though I certainly wouldn't have been an ideal wife for any of them," she reassured her. "I don't believe Porphyria is much inclined to trade her last name for any other, but we shall include her all the same. The worst that can happen is that the two of us enjoy her company and your brother's attentions are diverted elsewhere."

Despite the fact that Ophelia was doing the opposite of trying to make her feel worse, Nova still did. Her mouth was running away with itself tonight, it was awful! She did wish her friend would have dismissed the idea of Miss Dempsey as had tried to. Perhaps her brother did take a shine to Miss Dempsey though... No, it was an ill match indeed! Miss Dempsey made no bones about her oddness, she didn't know shame at all - she wasn't even a pureblood! Then again, perhaps having her along wouldn't be so terrible, she might make the other ladies seem better by contrast to Aldous. Oh that was a cruel thing to think, how could she?

"Perhaps she might not be interested..." She wasn't actually sure what Miss Dempsey thought of her but if she got a whiff of all this matchmaking and if she didn't care for her company she might very well refuse to show up. Oddly enough she thought she might be a little disappointed if that happened, despite her immense relief. "I am so grateful for your help, I know my brother will find the right lady if you've a hand in it."

Ophelia smiled sweetly at Nova and reached to pat her hand, with the air of a mother whose beloved child had just asked for help with something simple. "Of course he will, dearest. Have no fear of that. Why don't you come for tea early next week and we'll finalize our guest list?" she suggested. She had no idea how many names Nova had included so far, but she would have a list of her own before they spoke next, that was certain.

"That sounds perfect." Nova smiled at her friend, properly. Nova was not inclined to exercising her cheek muscles, her smiles were usually so small and tight that they were almost imperceptible. It was a wonder that her muscles hadn't completely atrophied so as to make a full smile impossible.
