Cam,

Not sure how much Mama has told Wally or what you've heard. I just woke up this morning after being out of it for almost 5 days. It's now pneumonia and it's really bad, everybody is worried. I can barely hold the quill to write, but I had to try while Mama was out for a few minutes.

I'm alright for now, but it's kind of scary. Take care of Splash for me?
Love,
Sloane

Handwriting is messier than usual and dotted with ink splots and tear stains.

Sloane,

You mean to tell me you've been out since you were transferred? Of course I've heard nothing, because your brother hasn't done me nor any of our other friends any favors by updating us on your condition assuming he knows. Is there no way any of us can visit? Wally, even? Your writing scares me. The handwriting is all wrong and you almost sound like you're saying goodbye you don't think you're going to be alright. The healers are taking care of you, aren't they? They've dealt with worse than pneumonia, I'm sure. Positive.

Splash is fine. He curled up on the edge of my bed last night, which struck me as odd. He growled at me when I tried to move the covers back, though. Some things never change.

I'm worried about you. What can I do?

Always yours,
Cameron

morning
Cam,

I think they kept me out on purpose. I can barely breathe. Mama may have not told Wally much. I'll be honest, I haven't heard much either, but what I have heard isn't good.

Mama assures me everything will be alright, but I'm scared. I wish you could come visit, but they're not letting anyone in my room.

No wonder Splash gives you a hard time; she's a lady, treat her like one.

I miss you.
Love,
Sloane

Sloane,

You'll be alright in the end. You'll have to be. They always say pneumonia is bad, but a lot of people recover, and you will, too.

I might not be able to be there, but I'm always just a letter away. Imagine me sitting in the comfy brown armchair near the fire with a quilt across my lap and Splash hissing at me from the nearby couch. Ninety percent of the time it's an accurate depiction of what it's like when I'm writing you a letter.

When I see you next time I'll make it special, I promise. I don't think anyone would question me if I hugged you.

I miss you, too. Sleep lots and drink whatever they give you. Don't forget to eat. Stay warm.

Love,
Cameron

(P.S. I knew Splash was a girl. Obviously.)

Cam,

Sorry I was sleeping. I hope so. I'm trying to stay positive, by they're all so grave looking around here. Tossing around severe symptoms and unsure looks.

It's a good picture, I like it. Be nice to Splash, I'm quite fond of her.

Take good notes for me in class.
Love,
Sloane

Sloane,

I'll be here, waiting for you to come back. I know you will. Don't let them stress you out anymore than you already are.

I'll make sure to take the best notes I can. Maybe I'll even ask Alice to offer some of hers to be included in a care package. For now, eat these*. They always said chocolate makes everything feel better.

With love,
Cameron

* Included is a few chocolates tied in a handkerchief.

Cam,

Spiked a high fever, been in and out for the last two days. Will try again when I can hold my head up. Wally can fill you in, Mama's told him.
Love,
Sloane

Sloane,

If I tried to tell you how worried I've been you'd probably send me another howler. I feel awkward asking your brother about you. He knows we're close, but I feel like he'll see right through me the minute I bring up your name. It doesn't take a legilimens to see how worried he is about you, though. He looked all shaken this morning and didn't eat much during breakfast.

Please keep fighting. You will beat it. I know you will. I'll be waiting for you.

Love,
Cameron
