INT'L QUIDDITCH LEAGUE: Britain vs. Hawaii
#1
IQL: Britain vs. Hawaii Match

Just because the cup doesn't come until August doesn't mean league play won't be gracing our shores! That's right—the Hawaiians have come to town, and they mean business!

What do we need to know about Wizarding Hawaii and their national quidditch team?

Show

The match will take place at Portree stadium on June 27th. This will be our first played match in some time, with the OOC element starting on June 9th (Charming's 10th birthday!). We already have our British National Team squared away (check your PMs), we need some Hawaiians—this is where everyone comes in!

HAWAIIAN NATIONAL TEAM

Captain: Kaimana Male. 25-31.
1st String Chasers: Kailani Hekekia, Lopaka, Kaimana One female, two male.
1st String Beaters: Kokoikikane, Nakoa Male
1st String Keeper: Makoa Open gender
1st String Seeker: Halia KapuleFemale.
In addition, there is 1 player age 17-19, 1 player age 31-35, and 5 players age 20-30.

I WANT A HAWAIIAN QUIDDITCH PLAYER!
  • We are making it easier than ever by not requiring applications for these characters! Simply post in this thread to reserve, create your account & fill in the mini-profile, and post in Maintenance to be sorted into the temporary usergroup! Reservations last one week.
  • When posting, please include your REP, CLASS, and POSITION.
  • The Catch: These characters may only post in threads set from June 25th to June 30th. Any desire for them to stay on later (the team next plays in mid-July in Italy and then are done for the season) requires an application.
  • One character per player until June 6th, at which point you're welcome to pick up a second!
  • Please do not take a Hawaiian player if you do not think you can reasonably participate (post every 2-3 days, minimum) in in a played match.

I WANT MY CHARACTER TO WATCH THE MATCH!
  • So do we! Please make sure you follow the master game thread and know that the higher up your seat is, the more expensive.
  • We will also have group threads available for certain areas of the stands...
  • ...and an event or through kicking around for before and after!

FYI to Hawaiian players!

Quote:Surnames did not exist in ancient Hawaii. Early converts might adopt a Christian name and use their Hawaiian name like a surname. In 1860 Kamehameha IV signed the Act to Regulate Names. Hawaiians were to take their father's given name as a surname, and all children born henceforth were to receive a Christian, i.e. English, given name. Hawaiian names were transferred into middle names. The law was not repealed until 1967.

(Wikipedia)

Per Kayte this is a Muggle law, so would impact Muggleborn witches/wizards, but might not apply to those from wizarding families.

I've just made a note in my girls history about my girls legal name v the name she uses.
There was a similar law affecting irish names (ie that you couldn't name a child Sean, Siuin, Taidgh etc) most people used an english name for the paperwork but called the kid something else, for example my great grandfathers birth cert is 'Thomas' but was known as Taidgh even his degree was conferred on Taidgh. #colonialism
Unless there are serious objections, my girl will have a 'christian' name in accordance with muggle law, but a Hawaiian name that she has always been known by.

Question!

I know we're supposed to only be posting in threads between the given dates in Britain, but could we do pre-dated threads between Hawaiian team members that take place in Hawaii? Like after the roster was announced? :)

I don’t see why not!

I give Kayte the gift of offering my services for the last chaser (slash, captain? is there already a captain?) I justify this with the character being temporary, don't judge me.

Instead of how the QWC matches were run last time, this time they will be run like previously held student matches with our handy-dandy visual grid and directions.

General Rules
  • Weather is NOT in effect for player ability, but is for injuries.
  • Games last 14 days OOC maximum.
  • At the start of every OOC day, the moderator flips a coin. Heads, team one scores a goal. Tails, team two does. This is to (hopefully) make scoring more realistic.
  • If no one posts for 48 hours, the moderator can go to town on what's happened.
  • Absences do not excuse a team. If your seeker or keeper is away, tough cookies.
  • You can post as often as you like, as long as it is not two in a row, especially to move.

0 1 2 3 4 5
A
B
C O--- ---O
D
E

<-- LEFT RIGHT -->
Gryffindor Score Zone Hufflepuff Score Zone

It might look a bit scary now, but don't worry, it won't be for much longer! Think of it as similar to a board game - or wizards chess!

The Table Explained

The white columns/rows labeled A - E and 0-5 are used to report player movement. Each player can move one square in any direction per post. It will be stated OOC at the bottom of your post in the format B2 -> C2, for example.  This prevents people from magically being on one side of the pitch one post and then on the other side the next.

Chasers can attempt scores once they reach the score zone in the table. Passing occurs successfully without moderation if chasers post consecutively in the thread. Interceptions will be moderated if interrupting the posting teammates. You must be within one square (any direction) to pass or intercept the quaffle. Chasers that have the quaffle without passing or shooting for more than 24 hours will automatically be hit by a rogue bludger and drop it.  They may also be injured due to the bludger hit.

Score Zones work as follows. For example on the included grid, Hufflepuff scores by getting goals through Gryffindor's hoops (marked in red) and vice verse for Gryffindor.

Beaters must be in the same box as a bludger in order to hit it. Bludgers are marked as the * and are considered to be in the last box it was hit to. Beaters may either do a direct hit toward any player on the board no matter how far away (you name them in your post IE, Beater 1 hits toward Opposing Keeper; OR you may do a wild hit and that will be moderated accordingly.

Keepers do not need to report their position movements via the table. Keepers must post to block a shot on the hoops, if you do not post within 24 hours it is an automatic success. The next chaser to claim the quaffle gains possession, regardless of team,  but you must be nearby.

Seeker also do not need to report their position movements on the table. Seekers may not attempt to catch the snitch until day 7 OOC.

Each moderator post will include a table in which it shows each Chaser and Beater's updated positions as well as the usual commentary on successful movements.

GAME PLAY EXAMPLE

In the example, we'll be looking at Chaser James Jameston's movements and what his posts should look like.

The table below is the moderator's post:

James Jameston's post:
James catches the quaffle (C4) and shoots toward the Hufflepuff goal posts (C5). He shoots for a goal!

The moderators next post:
(Assuming the Hufflepuff keeper has tried to block the goal.)

The goal is successful!

How long is the game going to last IC? Or will that be determined at a later date?

(I don't want anything super specific, just like... you know, was it an hour or three days level of detail xD).

Quote:Each player can move one square in any direction per post.

Are diagonal moves okay? Like can A1 -> B2 be done in one post, or do you need to post twice (A1 -> A2, A2 -> B2)?

/sorry, I realize these questions are probably answered elsewhere but I don't want to dig through student Quidditch stuff looking for it >>

Yes! Diagonal is fine!
