Appearance:
Merideth is of average height at 5 ft. 2 in. with chocolate brown hair and honey brown eyes. While in possession of naturally bronzed skin, Meri is even more so due to the fact that she often works in the daylight making deliveries for the bakery. This results in a splattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose. Because she makes her deliveries by broom, her hair is often windswept and in a half updo. She often wears the bakery uniform of a blue skirt, white blouse and apron. Her wand arm is her right arm.
History:
In the spring of 1863, a middle-class woman named Mary-Elizabeth “Eliza” finds out she’s carrying an illegitimate child. While she is not immediately disowned, it is made clear she is to give the child up or face disownment. A month or so before her due date, she comes across a bakery store and tea room called The Ivy Leaf. After a few visits, she negotiates a position as a scullery maid once she has given birth. After the birth, Eliza occasionally brings Meredith to the store who is a surprisingly docile and amiable babe. Soon, Meri charms the entire staff and becomes a regular favorite customer of everyone's.All You Knead is Love
For her 3rd birthday in 1867, Eliza is given a tiny broom which she is ecstatic about. Her following first sign of magic results in her flying into a large sack of flower and coming out completely spotless.
For the longest while, the entire staff of the Ivy Leaf notices something off with Eliza and soon Eliza is asking to drop Meri off whilst she runs some errands. The staff obliges seeing as Eliza has a good record at work and proven to be a hard worker, however, soon they refuse and in 1864, Eliza is fired, resulting in Eliza dropping Meri off late at night and never returns. Like the bakery staff, Meri charms the orphanage staff, though soon a few of the children start to bully her in a number of different ways: take her stuffed animals, replacing her pillow with crumpled newspapers, dumping spiders in her bed and locking her out of the orphanage so she is forced to hide in alleys and sleep there for the night. In the Bread of Night
Word reaches the bakery of Meredith’s situation via their monthly donations to the orphanage. It takes a few months but eventually, a man named Matthew Edgecombe comes around to visit Meredith. He takes a liking to her, and occasionally brings some stuffed animals which cheer the girl up considerably. Every time he comes back, she approaches him without the toys, claiming she gave them to the children. Through the caretakers, he gleans that the child has been bullied and resolves to adopt her. She later finds out that Matthew Edgecombe is an ex-Auror as well as a family friend of the owners of Ivy Leaf Tea Room & Bakery.
As Meri turns 11, she receives a letter from Hogwarts. Being the official ward of Matthew Edgecombe, she can go as opposed to when she was in the orphanage, she faced the possibility of not being able to go. The day of her 11th birthday, Matthew presents her with a present which is revealed to be Meri’s mother’s wand that he intended for her to keep as a momento: Pear, Unicorn Tail Hair, 10 ½ in, Springy. Though perhaps not the absolute best wand for Meri, it suits her well and she insists upon using it, refusing Matthew’s offer to go to Ollivanders.A Whisk Morning
The fall of 1875 sees Meredith sorted into Hufflepuff as a first-year, although it is soon made known she is a known bastard and many immediately turn against her. She eventually finds some friends of her own who help defend her, and in turn once she figures out how to get into the kitchens, she gladly sneaks her friends midnight snacks.
The rest of her Hogwarts career passes rather uneventfully after the first few years, however, the summer of 1877 sees her enter The Ivy Leaf Tea Room & Bakery for the first time in years. At first, the staff do not recognize her, but all is understood as soon as she produces her mother’s wand and explains the disappearance of her mother. Like mother like daughter, after a few visits that summer, Meri negotiates a position for herself once she takes her O.W.Ls and lets her father know of her plans. Matthew is not the happiest, however, he wants the best for her and does not like to say no to Meri. It is during one of these visits that she first encounters "Marius" and finds herself immediately attracted to him. Once she returns to Hogwarts, she gravitates towards the Ivy Leaf more and more, managing to see him on more than one occasion.
In 1879, her fifth year comes to an end and Meri sits for her O.W.Ls. Once summer hits, she appears at the back door to the Ivy Leaf ready to work. Starting out as an apprentice baker, which sees her up early to help with morning deliveries, keeping the kitchen clean throughout the working day, and making sure supplies stay in stock. As the years progress, she works relentlessly up the ladder of the tea room, eventually helping establish their business in daily markets as well as streamlining deliveries to bring in more income for the company. Meri does the deliveries herself, taking them by broom which sees her promoted to delivery manager.A Match Made in Leaven
One of her summer of 1883 deliveries includes daily deliveries to the Augurey Beak Cafe, where she recognizes "Marius", who calls her over and introduces her to the group. From then on, she makes it a habit to always deliver to the ABC herself to get to know "Marius"'s lovely (if not eclectic) group of friends. Soon she joins them on a weekly basis, bringing along with her the leftover baked treats, confections, and loaves of bread that the company can spare. In 1886 she is promoted to general manager of the tea room, and sees a new accountant, Henry hired to help keep the books.
In the summer of 1887 Meri is at the World's Fair scoping out new flavors and spices for recipes with Henry and one of her cooks, Sam when the fair is struck with disaster and the Pavillion collapses. Meri gets stuck underneath, resulting in Henry and Sam both dragging her out of the wreckage.
At the end of February 1890, word reaches the staff at Ivy Leaf that a new branch of the bakery appears in Hogsmeade because of the Time-Turner event. Meredith is sent to oversee the establishment. In the midst of this, the horse and cart spook, and her wand gets snapped in the scuffle.
