Nick Blott vs. Hermia Bonaccord
#1
April 27th, 1894 — Hogsmeade Memorial Assembly Rooms
Dueling Tournament

The auror relayed the rulesto the competitors with a bit more care than he had to Selwyn and Sterling. Christopher Moony was not the sort to have an abundance of confidence in civilian duelists until they proved otherwise, and so he anticipated a rather formulaic match.

"When you are ready, Mr. Blott," Kit directed, the formalities of the duel having been seen to.

He knew the name Bonaccord, from the world of international relations and diplomacy – he didn't know the daughter, but he fancied she was probably rich.

So it was a pity to be duelling her rather than paying a call, but – introductions were introductions, he supposed. Nick bowed, and started off with a jelly-legs jinx.

Hermia was all smiles when she curtsied to her second opponent. Her second! Succeeding in the first round gave her a burst of confidence. While she was a theorist at heart, she wasn't going to slack off on her practical skills. At least not the ones she could practice. Her heart felt a twinge of loss for Quidditch, but that was no matter now. She would test herself here. "Protego!"

The pair had quite decidedly not proven the auror wrong. Their motions were slower than those in other duels, their casts less precise. Indeed, Miss Bonaccord's shield shattered almost as soon as it had appeared, and Kit wondered if he couldn't have taken a nap on stage without fearing for his safety.

"First point, Blott!" the auror announced. "Miss Bonaccord to cast."

That was pathetic by the nicest of estimations. Still, Hermia squared her shoulders and set her focus on her opponent. Yes, adults were faster and more practiced than her opponents had been at Hogwarts, but that didn't change the heart of the sport. With a determined flick of her wand, Hermia attempted to disarm her opponent.

Miss Bonaccord, to Nick's mind, did not seem any more formidable an opponent than Berkwood had, and the latter had blasted himself off the stage. Perhaps she would have the good grace and appalling luck to disarm herself?

Well, just in case she didn't – Nick cast Silencio.

Blott was disarmed with ease, awarding Miss Bonaccord the point and launching the match into a tie-breaker, the most unimpressive duel to ever reach this point, in Kit's estimation.

"Mr. Blott to start our final round."

Well, this was last chance saloon for his chances. Nick did not like duelling any more than he previously thought he did, but he also didn't much want to lose. "Tarantallegra!" he tried.

She allowed herself a small grin for the point, but she wasn't the sort to gloat when...well, ever, really. Nonetheless, she intended to amend her earlier error and tried again, "Protego!"

Miss Bonaccord, it seemed, missed the weeks in her early years at Hogwarts when effective, timely shield charms were really hammered home. Kit declared Mr. Blott the winner as the young lady unwillingly danced herself off the stage.
