Yesterday, my wife brought twin sons into this world. The first of the two is called Hadrian Malachi, after Father, as we had discussed previously, though the second was, understandably, quite the surprise. He shall be without moniker until Helga is more recovered from the ordeal.

Please extend the news to your own wife, too, though I ask for no callers for the time being—not even family.

9th February, 1894

Sister,

I must apologize for not writing sooner; as a mother yourself, I know you understand how chaotic this time can be. I write to let you know that Helga is delivered of not one, but two sons, Hadrian Malachi and Orson Aldous. To name a babe after Father was always my intention; to name one for myself was my wife's own suggestion. I confess only to you that I felt a wave of affection when she did so.

Alas, I fear that one or both may not have opportunity to grow into their names. They are so horribly small, November, smaller than any of your own brood, and my wife has not yet recovered her energies. Dr. Pomfrey (the elder) attended to all three the day after the birth, and is to return tomorrow. I shall, of course, keep you posted.

I wish I had been able to write with more fanfare, more celebration, and not this half-enthusiasm, but I did not feel right keeping something so momentous from my dearest sister any longer. I am sure I am simply overcome by the Change of it all, and my worry will prove unnecessary in time.

Do give my love to the children.

You are, once more, an uncle. My wife delivered twin sons earlier in the week, whom I shall look forward to introducing to you in a few weeks' time: Hadrian Malachi and Orson Aldous.

Congratulations!!! Let me know when you're ready for visitors. I don't have much time away from school planned, but I can always take a weekend if I tell Valenduris about it ahead of time.

Dear Aldous,

I am sorry to hear that things seem so bleak, I hope that by the time this letter reaches you there will be cause for greater optimism. It would sadden me immensely to be deprived of the opportunity of meeting either of my new nephews, not to mention the toll I fear it would take on you. I shall think of little else until I hear that all is well for everyone involved.

At the same time, however, I must offer my wholehearted congratulations to you and Helga. What a surprise to have two children at once! I think you have chosen very well for their names.

I look forward to visiting as soon as is acceptable to you. In the meantime, I wish your wife and sons good health and a swift recovery from their ordeal.
