Appearance:

Possessing an unusually long and lanky frame, Nigel comes in at just over six feet (and three inches). It’s hard to tell though, with his habitual hunch and slouch that accompanies him wherever he goes. Not one to draw attention to himself, Nigel tends to hide in a crowd and keep himself far from the center of attention. He has shoulder length blonde hair and grey-blue eyes that are normally down in a book. Pale as a debutante, he doesn’t spend as much time outside as he should. What he does have is a pretty strong jaw and chin, heavy brows and a far-too-serious look on his face that screams for somebody to remove him from the books and do something more fun. He is left-handed and it’s a mess when he writes with a quill. He tends to look permanently disheveled, but doesn’t pay much attention to it.

History:

July 12th, 1869
A Second Son Nigel joins a brother, the second and last child of the Yarwood family. He is an easy child, quiet and able to entertain himself quite easily, even as a toddler. He’s a wary little thing, growing up on an valley full of dragons will do that to you.

1874
Magic On a cold winter night, Nigel, in a rare fit of defiance refused to eat his dinner and was sent to bed without supper. His dark room was too much for him to handle and he lit his candles by himself to light the room and keep the shadows away.

1877
Hogsmeade Trouble in the magical world sees a lot of wizarding kind fleeing to Hogsmeade, but the Yarwoods, content where they are and mostly hidden from muggle view, stay put.

1879
Uh Oh Papa Yarwood is killed in an incident with a dragon. Cue Nigel’s intense fear of getting too close to a dragon ever agin.

1880 - 1887
Hogwarts Nigel is expectedly sorted into Ravenclaw. Having always been an inquisitive and curious child, this surprises no one whatsoever. He adapts to the academic aspects quick enough, having always been a quick read and a quick study. He is more adept at the theoretical side than the application of some things, but practices enough to usually do well. When it comes time to add electives he adds care of magical creatures, which is a bit of a shock to those around him, but he’s always been good with creatures and animals of both the magical and mundane. Arithmancy is also added because he loves a good challenge. OWLs see him doing predictably well, but he only decides to keep Astronomy, Defense, Charms, CoMC, Arithmancy, and Potions. Despite the fact that most of these are practical classes, Nigel finds them useful for his chosen career path. While he doesn’t have much desire to work directly with dragons, he does find them absolutely fascinating and therefore plans to study them from a safe distance.

1887-1889
Internship Nigel does his requisite internship in the Department for Regulation & Control of Magical Creatures for a year before moving into the Beast Division. While Nigel doesn’t love the task of hunting down illegal animals and bringing them into the ministry to get them sorted, he does believe in making sure the creatures are rescued from less than desirable situations and that those responsible are held accountable.

1889-Present
Success After two years in the division Nigel finally settles down into the Dragon Restraint Bureau as a researcher. Finding himself much more at home, once again in the theory and the books than the application of his learned skills, he flourishes.The Glen allows him some first-hand study of the Common Welsh Green which he is slowly becoming somewhat of an expert on. Still he doesn’t relish getting up close and personal with the dragons himself, but at least he chose to do something in the family business, unlike his brother.

Nigel is a soft soul in a strange spot. His ties to the Glen naturally fostered an interest in dragons, but he prefers to keep them at a distance. He likes to think before acting, which can see him coming across as reserved, even shy, but once he knows what to do, he can and will follow through. A loyal friend, he doesn’t have many close friends, but the few that he does will see him stand up for them in any situation. He is very much a lover not a fighter and would be romantic if he could get his nose out of the books.
