Appearance:
A good mix between his siblings, Alvinc carries the more willowy build of his younger siblings as well as their height. Though not the tallest, he is taller than Rufus at 5’9” so that’s all that mattered to him. He does take after his elder brother more in appearance, darker features and brown eyes. Thicker eyebrows balance out a strong chin and his hair is always in some sort of disarray. His perpetual slouch is almost as noticeable as the severe burn scars on his left hand and forearm. He doesn’t bother to hide them unless in polite society as they are pretty gnarly. The skin is mangled and the fingers on his left hand no longer bend or work properly to hold much of anything. Fortunately he is right-handed.History:
May 1867
Second SonAlvin is born one warm spring afternoon, which triggers a sign of magic in his older brother who vanishes him and sends him to a different part of the house. After panic ensues, he’s found safe and sound, swaddled and sleeping. 1870
The ThirdHarrison joins his brothers and unlike Rufus, Alvin is quite fine no longer being the baby. 1873
Four?Another boy joins the fray, this time to be named Wallace. 1875 Alvin has taken to his mother’s brooms quite well, just like Rufus, though Alvin has none of the finesse. It is not so much the flying that intrigues him, but the brooms themselves. He likes to tinker and build and create rather than play sports. Rufus heads off to school and is sorted into Gryffindor. 1876
Surprise!A set of twins is born, first a healthy girl, Sloane, and then a much smaller boy, Sawyer. Nobody has high hopes Sawyer will make it through the night, but he does. January 1877
The InevitableThough he defies the odds for several months, a bad winter chill claims Sawyer and the family mourn his loss deeply. The family moves to the expanding Hogsmeade that summer. 1878 - 1885
HogwartsAlvin’s curiosity leads to an easy placement in Ravenclaw. He is a problem solver, loves puzzles and is extremely creative so he finds himself very much at home. School comes somewhat naturally to him, but mostly in classes he finds interesting; Astronomy, Charms and Transfiguration quickly become favorites, whereas he’s not great at Potions or Herbology. He’s much better in theory than in practice, though he is good with his hands. He takes Ancient Runes as an elective as well as Gobbledegook later in his education. His exams go about as expected, getting a fair few OWLs and some decent NEWTs, Alvin’s talent lies in working with his hands and his attention to details lead him toward the path of broommaking. It fascinates him and as rubbish as he was at Herbology he finds trees particularly interesting and would have thought to pursue wandmaking, but growing up around quidditch left him with a love of flight, even if he never played like his brother or father. 1885 - 1887
ApprenticeshipAlvin takes an apprenticeship with a broommaker down in the south of England, enjoying the freedom it provides and of course the training. 1887 - 1889
JourneymanThis critical piece of his training allows Alvin to actually work on custom orders and play around with design. His master takes on another apprentice near the end of his training and Alvin thinks about moving home for a while to tinker with his craft but ultimately decides to join Mr. — in his workshop full time. 1889 - 1892
Life’s WorkKnowing Hogsmeade is saturated with broommakers these days, Alvin finds himself in a transient sort of lifestyle, following others in his craft here and there to different parts of the world, visiting different regions for their trees and their flying sports. Ultimately he ends up in the Pacific Northwest of the United States with its wide variety of tree species and quodpot. He pops home here and there, but isn’t a very constant presence. Autumn 1892
The MistakeOn a drunken night out with friends, Alvin winds up in hot water— nearly quite literally when his sleeve catches fire screwing around with a burnishing tool. Too drunk to realize what’s happening or what to do, his arm is engulfed and left severely mangled by the burn scars. Healers are able to save his arm and hand, but the damage is done. His skin is taught and his fingers practically useless; which ruins his once-promising career. December 1892
Home AgainAlvin heads home for Christmas, likely for good and he is sort of miserable. Feeling lost and without purpose, he dives headfirst into art as a means to escape reality. Fortunately is is not his dominant hand that no longer works, but it is bad enough he cannot continue his craft and so he feels adrift and without purpose. 1893 Picking up the pieces, Alvin struggles with that to do with himself and his time. He takes to drawing and painting in the park, but he’s restless and longing for a sense of belonging. He could follow after his mother into the ministry, or he could try to find some other trade, but without two good hands it’s almost impossible and so he drifts along trying to right his world. #existentialcrisis
Personality:
Alvin is as creative as he is hardheaded. Once he sets his sights on something he will do anything necessary to achieve his goals. Without a clear direction he can drift along which makes him a little sullen and reclusive. Generally he is pretty good-natured and easy to chat with, but he can withdraw easily if he feels like he is unfulfilled or being a burden. A natural problem-solver, he is resourceful and a dreamer. A closet romantic, he has never truly had time for romance, but now feels himself unworthy as he cannot provide.
