UC/MCAB | REP 7+ | BALL

What:The Twillbright Annual Ball
Who: For members in good standing of the upper class as well as those in the upper middle class. Some more middle-middle class may have been invited if they hold rank at the ministry or hospitals.
Cost: N/A
Where: The Twillbright's High Weald Country HOme
Why: It is a party.
When: April 4th

Every year the senior Mrs. Twillbright hosts a single ball in her High Weald country home. As she's gotten older, the theming has gotten more and more intense. This year she's chosen a slightly more ambiguous theme of "time". As such she has had charms installed to mimic that of Hogwarts' great hall ceiling in which the sky reflects various times of day - specifically transitional states. At one point it might be dawn and paint the room in the brilliant colors of the sunrise while at another point in the ball, the roof will mimic the nighttime sky with stars and a full moon. Additionally, there will be a string quartet playing appropriately themed music. Some of the music might branch a bit more into seasons if they run out of "time" themed music.

Guest are encouraged to dress to the theme though in reality, not even Mrs. Twillbright knows what it means to dress to the theme of time so it is likely far more loosely enforced than it was in past years.

U/MCAB | REP 6+ | GARDEN PARTY

What: A Primer in the Language of Flowers
Who: NPC Hostess (Mrs. Raismith, infamous for owning no less than 8 ill-tempered small breed dogs named after exotic flowers) for society types
Cost: None
Where: The Raismith country home in southern England
Why: excuses for hurling
When: 15 April

Guests arrive by floo and are immediately asked to select a flower from an eclectic grand bouquet by the patio door. The flowers will magically meld themselves into flower crowns, corsages, boutonnières or other accessories so that they may be worn throughout the event. At this point they magically begin to influence the way others react to the wearer. For example, a woman with a crown of angelica may find herself on the receiving end of spontaneous poetry (inspiration); a debutante who nabbed a morning glory might find gentlemen have a tendency to laugh even at her less witty remarks (affection); a gentleman with a striped carnation in his buttonhole may have a hard time finding a promenade partner (rejection). The hostess has been totally transparent about this, by the way - if you don't understand the language of flowers that's on you. The effects last until the conclusion of the event, or until the flower is traded for another — just ditching your accessory won't rid you of the effects.

Otherwise, this is a fairly typical garden party. The gardens and patio are open, lemonade and light refreshments are being served, people are promenading, there's a string ensemble for ambiance, there are horseshoes and a wizarding version of Pall Mall that involves a magical obstacle course through which one must navigate the ball. (Are Pall Mall and croquet the same thing? I don't know enough about croquet to say? But I'm picturing that croquet-like thing the Bridgertons played in book/season two).
