The 12 Days of Charming

Ho ho ho! Santa Kayte is here again this year to bring you the 12 Days of Charming. To those new to our ranks (or extra forgetful), 12 Days is, quite literally, twelve days, in which each day brings with it a new challenge, riddle, or puzzle for you to solve. Complete all twelve to earn the 12 Days stamp!

Stamps not your jam? This is for you anyways—each day has one to five (or on some days, unlimited!) prizes available to be won on a first done, first served basis! I won’t tell you specifically what they are (what would be the fun in that?), but I can tell you that several Charmers have been enlisted as elves and, as always, the December Challenge stamp is buried in there somewhere…

Check back on Monday, December 12th for day one!

For Day 2, a ~spooky writing challenge:

Penny dreadfuls were cheap popular serial literature produced during the nineteenth century in the United Kingdom. The pejorative term is roughly interchangeable with penny horrible, penny awful,[1] and penny blood.[2] The term typically referred to a story published in weekly parts of 8 to 16 pages, each costing one penny.[3] The subject matter of these stories was typically sensational, focusing on the exploits of detectives, criminals, or supernatural entities.

Your mission? Create a post with a spooky premise!  This must be in a thread started today, and be at least 200 words long. It must also be an IC post, not a letter or journal entry. It can be a response to another thread created for this prompt, or a thread starter in its own right!

Day III

Yesterday saw Fallin, Lynn, and Dante take home a set from Lady. Everyone else contributed to their streaks :)

Once again, the hens are on the loose! That's right three characters have had their avatars transformed into French Hens—your mission is simply to find out who they are!

Day IV

Yesterday saw Kit, Fallin, Dante, MJ, and Gin take home Immortality Discounts. Everyone else contributed to their streaks :)

Our fabulous hens Mirren Greyback, Lear Galcote, and Ivy Sandow have now been returned to normal as we move on to day four!

That's right—its a cryptogram! I have provided all vowels like a weird, reverse Wheel of Fortune—all YOU need to do is find all the other letters to make up this phrase. I am quite confident you have heard it before, though it may not be what you expect—perhaps you'll giggle when you figure it out...

Day V

Yesterday saw Kit, Dante, and Lynn take home a moodboard from MJ. Everyone else contributed to their streaks :)

The solution was...

DRACO DORMIENS NUNQUAM TITILLANDUS

Day five is a writing challenge! Create a post in which birds pose a problem in some capacity. It could be as minor as an owl delivering mail to the wrong address or as major as a giant clockwork bird that wants to murder you (please avoid destruction of public areas, though). This must be in a thread started today, and be at least 200 words long. It must also be an IC post, not a letter or journal entry. It can be a response to another thread created for this prompt, or a thread starter in its own right!

Day VI

Yesterday saw everyone take home the December Writing Challenge stamp. Everyone also contributed to their streaks :)

We may have missed the day of the golden rings, but that doesn't mean gold is off the table. That's right—somewhere out there is a gold coin with your name on it!  I mean, not literally, but.

Simply find the coin in an active IC thread to complete today's challenge!  And in the spirit of Christmas, I will also give you three clues so that Emma doesn't murder me to get you started:
  • The character posting is male
  • It is not in Irvingly
  • The thread has been posted in during the month of December.

Day VII

Yesterday was a golden opportunity that saw Bee, Gin, and MJ take home a Golden Ticket! This will allow them to bypass one challenge of their choosing in the upcoming Winter Labyrinth! However, as Bee does not participate in Winter Labyrinth, her prize was raffled off amongst everyone else who participated today—congratulations to LdyPayne (Walter Staghart)!  Everyone else contributed to their streaks :)

Today's writing challenge is NaNo Lite! That's right, it's all about that word count—though hopefully you bring quality with your quantity ;) There are also two ways to play:

  • ROUTE ONE: Post 500 words across all your characters. You will lock in your streak for today, but will not be eligible for a prize.
  • ROUTE TWO: Post 1000 words with one character. You will not only lock in your streak, but be eligible for a prize. As of 3:47pm Hali time, I'm out of prizes for today!
Once you've figured out what strategy works for you, make sure your word counts are in each post counting towards today's challenge!

Day VIII

Yesterday saw Lynn, Gin, Kit, Dante, Nichole, Nolie, and Fox take home a Against the Odds! Everyone else contributed to their streaks :)

Today's another puzzle:
COOL FUSE SINNED.

The phrase above is an anagram of a currently active thread title. Your mission is not only to unscramble the letters to find the title, but to then find the link to the thread in question!

Day IX

Yesterday saw Lynn and Fallin take home a playlist from Beanie! Everyone else contributed to their streaks :)

COOL FUSE SINNED.
SOUND OF SILENCE.

Today is a little different. We will be raffling off prizes amongst everyone who participates, rather than offering them first come, first served. This is to ensure everyone can take the time they need to do the job right—we're spreading some holiday joy!

Look, we all need a little love sometimes, and this is your opportunity to send some anonymous affection to your fellow Charmers! Simply choose three (or more!) Charmers to write notes for and send them to me, and I'll forward them all tomorrow <3

Day X

After seeing all the love going around, I think it's safe to say that we are all winners. But 12 Days has it's rules, So. Yesterday saw Dante, Jordan, and Nolie take home a set from Lady! Everyone else contributed to their streaks and warmed my cold dead heart :)

That's right—its another cryptogram! I have provided all vowels like a weird, reverse Wheel of Fortune—all YOU need to do is find all the other letters to make up this phrase. It's truly a Canadian take on a holiday classic!

Day XI

Yesterday saw MJ take home a featured want ad! Everyone else contributed to their streaks :)

The puzzle wound up being harder than I expected—y'all need to brush up on your Canadiana! :P The solution to the puzzle was

FIVE GOLDEN TOQUES

Let's get back to writing! Your mission is to show your character being either naughty or nice in a post. The post can be in any IC thread, but the post itself needs to be made today and at least 300 words.

Day XII

Yesterday saw Fallin, Gin, Dante, Fox, and Kit take home 25HP for the house of their choosing! Everyone else contributed to their streaks :)

For this, our final day, a visit from the Ghost of Christmas Past — you will be creating a post of 300 words or more set at Christmastime (month of December) in any year before 1890. This can be a read only, or part of an ongoing thread; whichever works for you!

Today's prize will again involve raffling, so there is no benefit to being first over tenth!
