Edison Moony vs. Elijah Urquart
#1
23rd July, 1892 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic
The final duel. If it had been up to him, Tybalt would have already given the three galleon prize and trophy to Moony and that smarmy git Urquart could get lost – but he was, unfortunately, a professional. Bummer.

Once he had reminded them of the rules one last time, Tybalt added: "Best of luck to you both. Mr. Moony, if you please."

Ned eyed his opponent. He knew Urquart, of course. They were in the same year, so they'd shared many classes together since first year. The boy was smug and uppity, traits the Moony boy didn't share or value. Instead of an encouraging smile, he gave the Slytherin a polite one.

"Fumos," he cast, hoping to sidestep out of the way under the cover of smoke.

And here they were, in the final round. If Elijah could best Moony—the dueling club president, no less—then he would surly have the highest of bragging rights in the year to come. Oh, anyone with eyes knew the prefect was Moony's social and intellectual better, but to best him at his own game would be an utter delight.

"Flipendo!" he cast the knockback jinx quickly.

For Merlin's sake. The smokescreen had worked, he'd thought – but the knockback jinx shot straight through it and Moony was launched backwards out of the smoke, for all to see. (Could Tybalt pretend he hadn't noticed that? Could he maybe Confound the whole audience and still give Moony the point?)

"Mr. Urquart takes the first round, and may begin the next," he announced instead, begrudgingly.

Confidence bolstered (not that it had really needed it) by his early advantage, Elijah all but preened as he cast his pumpkin-head jinx.

Damn.

He'd zigged where he should have zagged. He'd have to do better this time.

Dusting himself off, Ned rose back to his feet. While he was tempted to soak the boy with a jet of water, he instead cast "Incarcerous.". He carefully and speedily traced the wand movement.

Nooooooooo. Why did the world hate good (Gryffindor) people this way? Tybalt was so disappointed at the result that he didn't even crack a smile to see one of the boys with a pumpkin head, which would have won him over in any other duel.

But not today. "There we are, then," Tybalt announced, once Moony was set to rights. "It seems Mr. Urquart is our student tournament winner." Not his winner, but.
