"Good job," June murmured to Ida, although she didn't dare look at her. Even if they were having a little tiff, she was still proud of her friend for having it made it this far. (Although June would have been shocked to find Ida had been disqualified during the Transfiguration round, given that was her specialty.) Even if she didn't win, the blonde was proud to have made it this far in the competition.

Illusions were such a broad topic that it took Juniper a moment to figure out what she wanted to do before she took a lion figurine, holding it in the palm of her hand. She held it out for all to see. Then she focused on casting an auditory illusion spell of the lion roaring; if done correctly, the crowd would hear it behind them and would very clearly not be coming from the front where she stood. It was a different take, and June could only hope that it counted and didn't get her disqualified.

Both she and Minnie were still in, and all was to play (cast?) for; Mattie was now so concentrated upon her own spells that (for once in her life) she hardly had any attention left to spare for what Iphigenia Adebayo was up to.

She glanced upwards, and – thinking of the Hogwarts Great Hall, maybe – tried to create an illusion of falling rain.

Pleased as she was with her writing-desk-raven, Porphyria was conscious that she had rather played it safe so far. (Safe as in unambitious; safe also as in appropriately ladylike). She would not be able to conjure something quite like this – so, for this round, Phyri took inspiration from a silver platter amongst the props, and put it out before her.

On it, she attempted to create and display the illusion of a severed head, inspired by the painting. (What could they do if they didn’t like it? Disqualify her?)

Lycoris did her best not to wrinkle her nose at her distaste in her sisters illusion. After all, she had to appear supportive but ugh, dismembers heads. She focused on her own illusion spell which would have the florals on the hem of her dress appear to turn into rainbow-esque hued butterflies that then moved up her dress and into the air around her before disappearing in a poof of rainbow confetti. The confetti was also merely an illusion so there was no mess to clean up.

“Good job as well,” Ida replied to June, her gaze ducked. Despite her curtness, she really missed her best friend, especially how funny she was, and her knack for making still statues and figures dance and sing (or in today’s case, roar).

The competition carried on, and the witch tried to focus on this instead of silly feelings. This proved easier once the severed head revealed itself. She couldn’t help but recognize— “Oh, Salome,” because obviously this was an illusion as much as an imitation of art, and she was pleased to have made the connection. This contentment was short-lived, however, and she wound up feeling rather silly that her bland reaction was the wrong one once the room erupted into a small tumult. Ida worried the judges might not be able to recover at all.

With nothing to do about her regretful choice in compete order now, Ida resolved on a more cheerful illusion. There was no one she knew better than herself, and so she endeavored to conjure up her own duplicate— identical down to the pattern of her dress, although very close inspection would reveal it to be a bit flat, with her eyes rather dull-looking.

Still, it should hold up long enough for Ida to take herself on a quick little turn for a dance, assuming the more masculine lead in a gallop before she twirled her dupe self and dipped it, allowing her illusion to disintegrate from her hands into white smoke.

Still she remained. Harmony held onto that fact—the fact that she had made it this far—as she prepared her illusison. Illusion-work was more difficult than a simple charm or act of transfiguration. It was often multi-facetede, and required a more organized mind. Franny tried not to let need distract her as she cast her spell, designed to make her simple day dress appear as though a golden ball gown. So long as she did not move, the Ravenclaw thought, the illusion should be successful.

Callista had failed. Ipigenia recognized this, acknowledged it internally, then tucked it away in a little box within her to be addressed later. She was not about to let her sister's failures bring about her own.

Having been unable to transform into one herself, Genia's illusion was intended to make the semblance of a serval stalk right up to the judges. A nod to her abilities, even if she could not use them to their fullest.

Illusion work. Mina wasn't necessarily the best illusionist, but she could certainly do a better job than whoever had cast the illusions at the Firework Night ball earlier this season. In fact, the thought gave her the perfect idea, and she promptly cast an illusion of shimmering lavender fireworks overhead, which hopefully would not conflict with Miss Farris's illusion, but instead compliment it.

Cecelia didn't like illusions much, but she could see their benefit. She intentionally waited for others to cast before she herself cast a spell — conjuring illusory clouds across her sapphire day dress's skirt, that would flow as if in a steady, slow breeze. Much like Miss Gambol, if CiCi simply stayed in place, it would be perfect.

Hermia's eyes were firmly on the book now real in her hand. The memories of the staged reading from summers before now things she cherished. Inspired by the story and not interested in seeing what else could go wrong with her peers, Hermia put her energy into making a gleaming sprite appear to dance above the pages of her book.

There were successes, but there were also less-than-successes. Miss Parkinson was rather visible, which normallly would not hasve been a bad thing but alas, was counter to her intended illusion. Miss Gambol's efforts faltered altogether when the redhead sneezed. Miss Mackenzie briefly blinded one of the judges with her light, which did not endear her to them. Misses Chang, Bonaccord, and Bain likewise had efforts that lef the judges wanting (though at least not impaired), either due to their failing to perform or simply failing to impress.

Miss Farris was declared the standout of the round, her weather-based illusion reminding everyone fondly of Hogwarts—in addition to being well-executed and grand in scale.

The less successful young ladies departeed, and Fitz bid those remaining—truly the cream of the crop at this point—to begin their conjurations.

Your character has 72 hours to post their conjuring casting, after which the round will be scored. If everyone posts, the lowest three will be eleminated.

Oh. Well this was very surprising to have made it this far, but June was immensely pleased with herself. Ida was ushered off the stage, but not before Juniper could offer her a small smile, and the silent promise to find her after so they could hopefully hash out their differences. There was more room between herself and the other young ladies to either side of her, but June didn't move to either side. Her eyes sought at Thaddeus in hopes that he was watching him her performance.

They had practiced nonverbal spells together, which was the entire reasoning for attending Flint Institute in the first place. With a deep breath, June focused all of her attention trying to conjure some champagne into the the glasses she'd found within the props without the use of her wand, hoping that a nonverbal spell might give her the edge to win; if done correctly, all of the glasses would be full - one for herself and one for the lady on either side of her.

Cecelia was more than pleased to have lasted so long in this competition. She had realized that being flashy and splashy wasn't necessarily the way to win. Still, she couldn't help but be tempted to conjure something big and bombastic — but she fought the desire, and simply cast a spell to conjure a beautiful emerald ribbon and drawing with it the shape of an owl in flight.

If she hadn’t had such success with her illusion – the standout of the round! – Mattie might have rolled her eyes at the wild cat illusion. Typical.

Spurred on, however, by the much-thinned crowd, she attempted to conjure some floating candles of differing shades, with flames of blue and purple and green to match. Small, but finicky – the devil was in the details.

Animal conjuration was always a risk, but birds and snakes and suchlike were very achievable – so this time Phyri attempted to conjure a large cloud of bats and have them circle overhead in a great black mass.

For the first time in the competition, Genia set aside her wand. She had been practicing this particular spell with Femi—one he had learned far younger than she, and without a wand—at home. Why shouldn't she try it now?

With great concentration, Genia moved to conjure a veritable fock of butterflies that would, ideally, dance about her.
