After being given a private, tutor-based education, Jae-hyun spent much of his younger, more reckless years as a cursebreaker, before he met his wife and settled down in London to expand his learning and, eventually, become a healer (in 1879). He follows Confucian ideals, and has instilled these morals into his children (or at least, he tried). He may not approve of his son's reckless behavior, but he, too, was a reckless young man at one point, so he forgives and hopes his son will one day grow into the man he knows he can be.

Due to having a non-traditional education, Jae-hyun briefly worked at the Ministry of Magic, in a capacity far beneath him, until he was able to complete the NEWT Equivalency Programme at the Flint Institute after a brief refreshment of his education. This is due to the tensions between the muggle governments of Korea and Japan which were ongoing at the time of his education. Jae-hyun has additional lore and will require additional research on the part of anyone seeking to adopt him..

As the middle child, you'd almost expect Melissa to be meek, maybe even sweet. But Melissa's always been the sort to subvert expectations. Unlike most middle children, Melissa is quite frigid and even mean to her younger sister from time to time, while also antagonizing her elder brother, especially since both of them have graduated Hogwarts. She doesn't show this side of herself much outside of the home, or inside when her maternal family visits. She was especially hard-hit by Mother's death in 1891, as it was two years before her debut.

She especially adores her cousins, aunt, and uncle, and is, perhaps, Grandmama's favorite granddaughter. She would like to join them in the social stratosphere. She was born in December 1874. Her English name is just a suggestion; her Korean name/middle name, Ye-eun, is not.

Grandmama has never really liked her son-in-law. This only got worse after her only daughter died, as she blamed him for her death. Natalia had never been so interested in the sea before Jae-hyun came into the picture. She does see her granddaughters as extensions of her daughter, though she does recognize that they are not her daughter, especially with Stella's anxiety and Melissa's...Melissa-ness. She also is not a huge fan of her grandson's behavior.

Grandmama was raised in Russia — where? Up to you! — and as such attended Durmstrang, not Hogwarts. How many other children she and her late husband had is open!

Mr. Cowen does not particularly know what to think about his brother-in-law, nieces, or nephew. Especially since he doesn't have much context for what's been going on, unlike his mother. He, his wife, their children, and his mother have all recently moved to London — into a much more fashionable magical neighborhood than Jae-hyun moved into, but not too far away — to provide greater support than just his wife alone could possibly offer.

He is not particularly classist towards Jae-hyun, though he does judge him for not making the social connections to maintain a true upper class lifestyle when he could afford to financially. He is too polite to say anything about this...though his mother and wife are not.

This is not Mrs. Cowen's first time helping her in-laws. When Melissa graduated, she briefly moved into the Dhan home to support her niece during her first season, making necessary introductions. But as soon as she realized Jae-hyun did not like her all that much, she arranged for a social peer to provide further support to Melissa, and returned home, publicly citing that her own children needed her presence. Privately, she got into a significant argument with Jae-hyun over the circumstances.

Other than this information, Mrs. Cowen is quite open, as is how many children she and her husband have had together.
