Appearance: Javert is a tall (5'11'') and well built man, as his profession makes sure that he is not idle. He can generally be considered quite good looking, as he has clear and well-proportioned features. His hair has a medium brown hue and his eyes are blue-green, like his father's. When he's not at work, Javert enjoys to wear expensive tailored suits. He is right handed.
History:
Childhood (1857-1868)

Xavier is the first son Jean and Vivienne Montfault. His family is of French descent; his grandfather moved to England during the revolution. Supposedly they are of an aristocratic descent, though Xavier knows his father only says that to sell his theatre's name (de Montfault).

Xavier has a nice childhood. His family isn't wealthy, but his father earns enough (as a Ministry employee of some sort) for the family to live comfortably.

He gains two sisters; Orianne when he's five and Odette three years later.

Hogwarts (1868-1875)

Xavier was a Gryffindor at Hogwarts. His best class, hands down, was Defense Against The Dark Arts. He became an accomplished duelist during his school years, having joined the club since his first year. Overall, he was best at wand-related classes and he somewhat struggled with the theoretical aspect of those classes. In any case, he was good enough to pass those classes with good grades and ultimately make the auror training programme.

He was an active member of the dueling and Quidditch clubs. He would have wanted to play for the team, but there was always too much competition and Javert wasn't that good. By fifth year, dueling had become his prime athletic activity.

His best friend at Hogwarts was a Hufflepuff from his year, Orpheus Parkinson. In spite of their different backgrounds (Orpheus was a pureblood and the grandson of a former Minister of Magic), they bonded from their very first weeks at Hogwarts.

He was an early bloomer when it came to girls. He had some innocent flings with girls of the lower classes. His first proper sexual experience took place on the night after his graduation, when he and Orpheus visited a brothel in London.

Auror Training (1875-1878)

Xavier makes good enough grades to make the Auror training programme. He's not one of the top trainees and many believe that he won't make it till the end. Xavier proves them wrong. He may struggle with the reading part of it, but he's an excellent duelist.

He was almost kicked out of the programme when he nearly got himself killed during a task. He tried to pull some Gryffindor-y heroic shit and his supervisor would have none of it. He's given a second chance and Xavier learns his lesson - at least until he becomes a full-fledged auror.

He is relieved when, in the end, he does complete the three years of training and becomes an auror. It was time for him to become a hero!

Meanwhile, in 1877, his father opens a theatre in Hogsmeade. Xavier thinks it's a silly investment, nevertheless, he doesn't mind the chance to rub backs with actresses.

Nothing really of importance happens between 1879 and 1885 so let's just skip to 1886 and his heartbreak involving Andromeda Parkinson.

Andromeda Parkinson (1886)

Andromeda is Orpheus' younger sister and Xavier has had feelings for her since he first noticed her at her coming out ball. She seemed quite smitten with him, too. Problem was, the cliche of so many love stories; they were from different worlds. Orpheus' formidable mother was open-minded enough to not mind a friendship between her son and a middle-class halfblood. She would never allow for her daughter to marry someone like Xavier, though.

The years were passing and Andromeda was getting older. In 1886, she was no longer one of the "fresh" debutantes and, encouraged by some friends and the fact that he earns quite a lot as an auror, Xavier decided to try his luck and ask for her hand. Maybe Astrid Parkinson would look pass his social standing and his lesser blood status. Her own brother married a muggleborn, after all!

It doesn't go well.

The Promotion (1887)

After the Head Auror at the time goes missing, Xavier's superiours decide that he would be the best replacement. Xavier is honoured by the decision, but also overwhelmed. His promotion occurs in a rocky period, with the Auror Office working on two major cases. A wealthy pureblood, Sterling Carrow, had been murdered in June and the public was exasperated over the Aurors' inabilty to find the murderer. The Daily Prophet is harsh on Xavier and blames all this incompetence on Xavier's inability to lead the department. Xavier begins to think that maybe he is unsuited to the job.

The only person who seems to be on his side is his superiour, Justin Ross. It is because of that (among other things), that Xavier happily supports Ross' ministerial campaign that year and he is rejoiced when he's elected Minister of Magic.
