Malcorvus watched as a witch guided the new widow away from the scene, his features schooled in his usual stoic expression. Inwardly he sympathized. He knew what it was like to lose somebody you care for deeply. The marriage may have been short but he didn't think it was a loveless match as many ended up. In truth, the marriage was so new and Mr. Daphnel being handsome, or at least that is how several women had described while he was in earshot, Malcorvus was certain there was plenty of attraction on Ms. Daphnel's part.
Turning his attention back to the conversation between the late Mr. Daphnel and Mr. Chang, Malcorvus gave a curt nod. "Understandable you don't feel up to answering any questions the authorities may have. I can show you to a private room to give you some peace while you adjust to your new condition. I'm sure Mr. Chang will be willing to keep you company if you don't want to be alone. As the host it will be necessary for me to meet the authorities once they arrive."
