Good Lord, her hair was a tangled mess. She didn't have any potions to detangle it, and she was sure it looked like a certified bird's nest. Her finger caught a tangle and she winced, reaching up with her other hand to untangle it as she walked out. She had braced herself for hearing Dory's voice, and thank Merlin she only felt slightly warm when she heard his voice. From the pause, she gathered that he'd seen her in what could possibly be the most scandalous outfit she had ever worn in front of a man. Swallowing and willing herself to not be embarrassed anymore — this was precisely the reason she had not been a Gryffindor — Mabel met his eyes as boldly as she could, her hand still entangled in her hair.

But he didn't say anything. Just stood in the kitchen, staring at her with an expression on his face that she had never seen before. He looked.... famished. "Dory?"

Mabel begged her previous resolution about standing her ground to stay with her but she could feel it withering away the longer he stared at her. She shuffled her feet nervously and debated taking refuge behind one of the nearby plants. No, stay. Her resolve told her, and her shoulders tensed. "Is that food?" Her eyes caught the food on the counter and her previous convictions of not feeling embarrassed or nervous suddenly disappeared as she became acutely aware of how empty her stomach was.
