Appearance:
At five feet, ten inches, Aldous is certainly above average in size; his thin frame gives him a rather lanky appearance as a result. Though hardly what he would consider to be fashion forward, the wizard always dresses neatly and appropriately for the occasion. He has light hair and light eyes set against a long face. He is right-handed. What is most notable about Aldous is not apparent until he begins to move about—he walks with a pronounced limp and is aided by a cane after splinching a section of his right thigh.
History:
1855 | Aldous is born the eldest child—and heir—to Malachi and Alberta Crouch. He is given the middle name ‘Albert’ to honor his mother.
1858 | Though his parents have informed him that he will be getting one younger sibling, Aldous is quite surprised when he receives a pair of brothers instead. He is, however, both too old to find them interesting and too young to care much about his position in the household, so the initial surprise proves to be his only real feeling on the matter.
1862 | Aldous’ first act of magic is to scorch a weed in the family garden.
1863 | Alberta delivers another child, this time a daughter called November. Aldous thinks naming a child after the month they’re born in is ridiculous—November isn’t even a name like June or April! Still, he is now old enough to appreciate his role of firstborn and the responsibility that brings for him to be a role model for his younger siblings.
1866 | Aldous departs for Hogwarts, where he is sorted into Slytherin.
1868 | Now in third year, he picks up Arithmancy as his elective.
1869 | ----- begins his time at Hogwarts.
1870 | July sees him rather taken aback when he fails to be named prefect. Reuben leaves for Hogwarts in the fall and is sorted into Gryffindor.
1871 | Aldous completes his fifth year, scoring well on all of his OWLs. He chooses to continue on with Arithmancy, Charms, History of Magic, and Transfiguration.
1873 | Aldous completes his schooling with excellent marks. He and his father set off on a year-long tour of Asia.
1874 | Aldous returns from his time abroad, having worked hard to hone his language skills whilst travelling. Not yet prepared to take a wife but never the idle sort, he begins occasional work as a translator for the Ministry.
1875 | November begins her time at Hogwarts, and is sorted into Ravenclaw.
1876 | ----- finishes his schooling. Reuben declares an intention to play professional quidditch, which Aldous considers to be shortsighted even for the more impulsive of his younger siblings.
1877 | A very bad year indeed. First, the muggles become aware of a magical presence in Britain in what proves to be one of the greatest secrecy failings of all time. Like many families, the Crouches begin to establish a home in Hogsmeade, but a freak accident when inspecting the structure kills both Malachi and Alberta. Now the guardian of his younger sister, Aldous truly turns his attentions to work at the Ministry as an outlet for the emotions that a British gentleman should not show.
1878 | The Crouches finally move to Hogsmeade—on a different Wellingtonshire plot than the one originally intended. After wisely cutting his quidditch career short, Reuben finally joins his brothers in the Ministry. This only lasts a couple of years before he takes to travel and research, a position Aldous supports but is still uneasy about.
1882 | November graduates and makes her debut, but the seasons to follow become very lacklustre.
1884 | After the wizard who previously held the position died of a heart attack at the end of May, Aldous is promoted to Assistant Head of his department early in June. It is a matter of weeks before he splinches his leg rescuing an ill November from their enflamed house, leaving him with a permanent limp.
1885 | At long last, a marriage to Gaius Malfoy saves his sister from looming spinsterdom!
1886 | Aldous becomes an uncle to young Callistus.
1887 | November has a second child in the summer, called Flavius Aldous. At about the same time, his brother runs afoul of the Pendergast family, and after weighing the pros and cons of several options, Aldous reluctantly banishes Reuben to Canada. He returns by year’s end in support of their brother’s bid for Minister of Magic, but relations are decidedly uncomfortable.
