Appearance:

At five feet and four inches topped with dark blonde locks, a round face, and a perfectly average body, Allegra’s gifts do not lie in her appearance, which is entirely normal. She has wide, hazel eyes and long lashes, and a mouth more apt to be smiling than anything else. Though she dresses well for her station, much of her wardrobe is two to three years old. She is right-handed.

History:

The Clearwaters

Roland Clearwater was, it was often joked, born with a violin in hand. Leaving Hogwarts after his OWLs, not a soul was surprised to see him join an orchestra, and, later, become a composer. His popularity blossomed over the decades that followed, and he proved rather long in the tooth when at last he met Honour, who became his wife and his muse.

The pair spent many happy years together, raising their children in the musical arts and becoming a background presence, but presence nonetheless, in a number of well-to-do circles.

Upbeat Rhythms & Happy Melodies

1870 | Allegra Jane Clearwater is the third child, and third daughter, delivered of her parents. Hers is an easy birth, and is followed by equally easy early years.

1873 | Minuet is born.

1874 | On her fourth birthday, as has become the Clearwater way, she is presented with an array of instruments and directed to choose one. Allegra selects the cello, and quite literally lights up the room the first time she holds the bow in her hand—her first act of magic. From then, her father begins instructing her in the reading of music and the playing of the cello.

1875 | A boy is born. It is two days before the child has a name, as the family’s scheme to date lacks suitably masculine options. Eventually, he is called Vivaldi after his mother’s second favourite composer (her first being her husband, of course!)

1876 | Allegra joins her elder sisters with the governess, who, along with the other lessons expected of an accomplished young lady, instructs her in singing and the pianoforte. Allegra greatly prefers the former to the latter. In September, Harmony is the first of the Clearwater children to depart for Hogwarts. Though her absence is felt by her siblings, the house is certainly quieter without her…dramatics.

1879 | Cadence, too, departs for Hogwarts, leaving Allegra the eldest child at home much of the time. Shortly after her departure, the family moves to Hogsmeade.

1881 | Allegra is cautiously optimistic to join her elder sisters away at school. She is sorted into Hufflepuff (which does not surprise her parents in the slightest) and proves to be a perfectly average pupil (which does not surprise her governess in the slightest.)

The Calamity

The spring of 1883 sees disaster strike the family: stricken by a heart attack, Roland dies only a few days later. While the loss of their father and husband is bad enough for the Clearwaters, this does not put the family in a financially enviable situation. Honour’s previous goal of seeing her children excel musically is replaced by a new one: to see them excel in marriage.

Post-Mortem

1883 | The Clearwater girls return to Hogwarts, less Harmony, who had graduated in May. Now a third year, Allegra begins studying Care of Magical Creatures and Arithmancy, in addition to her core courses.

1884 | Having taken the appropriate time to mourn her father’s death, Harmony does not depart for the Italian stage (having always dreamed of being an opera singer) as she had once hoped, but instead throws herself headlong into the Season. By year’s end, she is not only married, but married up, breathing life into Honour’s hopes and dreams for her daughter. Minuet begins at Hogwarts.

1886 | Allegra writes her O.W.L.s and Cadence concludes her studies. She has a lacklustre first season, due in large part to her overt interest in progressive politics. Vivaldi, tone-deaf in more ways than one and rather socially awkward, is the last of the children to go to Hogwarts.
1888 | After writing her N.E.W.T.s, Allegra does not even entertain the idea of participating in the Season, having long since decided she would become a healer. She takes an internship at Hogsmeade Hospital, and her mother, exasperated, spends the next week in bed.

A New Rhythm

1889 | Allegra completes her internship year with flying colours and is made a full Creature-Induced Injuries healer. Her mother continues to implore her to give up work and find a husband, advice that she continues to ignore.
