Halloween Movie Marathon!
#1
Yes, that's right, hold on to your hats and try not to soil your sheets because a Halloween movie night approacheth! In past years we've generally had rather tame Halloween movies but this year is different. I will cultivate a bone-chilling experience you'll wish you never experienced. Just kidding, some of them will probably be hilariously terrible horror movies because that's what generally happens when you try too hard to scare people.

If you're a chicken fairly normal individual who does not take pleasure in being disturbed, don't dismiss this movie night! It won't be back to back slashers if I can help it, I'm gonna try and find some good thrillers to throw in there that aren't so overtly horrifying. I'll announce what's up next as it happens so you can jump in or out as you like.

All that leaves now is the when. I have two dates before Halloween that I can do so take your pick!

I'm available both times, wheeee.

I have Hal-Con this weekend so I can ONLY do the Tuesday, unfortunately, but don't let me be the deciding factor stop scheduling things when I'm out of town you whore

ALSO can I request supernatural horror more so than slashers or whatever? I'm not opposed to blood and gore but find most in that camp to be rather...pedestrian xD

I doubt there will be a lot of slashy gorefests tbh, typically they're a bit shit. There'll probably be at least one though because when else is a good time to watch those kinds of things? Besides never. It'll probably be one of the late late night ones since they don't require a lot of brain power to follow. I'm currently thinking of things like the Babadook, Malevolent (the Netflix ad for it froze on my tv last week for 15 minutes before I could get it off and I decided it looks promisingly creepy), Apostle looks interesting, I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives In the House, and I need to have a good trawl through US Netflix before I find things that aren't going to be available.

I work from 3pm-7pm EST on Tuesdays (and won't be available before then, unfortunately :P), but I can do Saturday afternoons! I have a VERY QUEASY stomach so I won't be here for any gore movies, but I like traditional spooky scary ones <3

I just watched Malevolent recently and it was aight. A little on the jump-scare/gory side rather than the super interesting thriller. I figured out the plotline pretty quickly. I've seen I Am The Pretty Thing and it was SO SLOW ZOMG.

I really like the Babadook! As far as straight-up scary, Hush is also a great choice. And my all-time favorite horror movie is Insidious, if there's any streaming service to watch that on. It's more interesting plotline and no gore at all that I remember. Cabin in the Woods, of course, is excellent as well.

For folks who don't like 'horror' movies, I recommend Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil if it's still streaming (it was on Netflix at one point). It makes fun of a lot of the horror tropes and is really hilarious. Some gore but in a campy way. I also think the original Scream movie is quite fun and not that scary. Hocus Pocus is obviously <3. I haven't checked whether any of these are streaming.

I could technically be available either day but that Saturday is Jack's last Saturday night before he leaves so... I'm not going to be at home watching movies. xD Tuesday is my vote or both.

This is one of my favourite movies, just sayin'.

MJ is pretty nifty @ graphics, if I do say so myself!

I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House is legit awesome and I love it hard! I'd also recommend February as an option, very atmospheric and sinister, and I think it's still streaming...

There's the Woman in Black or Bram Stoker's Dracula if we want stuff that's a bit more campy too and both are definitely on Netflix still!

So I was initially going to do two movie nights - one for the Hocus Pocus type and one for horror/thrillers/disturbing spooky crap but I wasn't sure if that was going to overkill on the movie nights. Wouuuuuld that be overkill or not? Is that something people would want?

GOD DO I LOVE HUSH

I've heard good things about "A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night." For non-horror, "What We Do in the Shadows" is super fun.

(I might make an appearance Saturday but it's Halloweekend, Tuesday I could lurk the whole time.)

I would adore that, but I am biased because of my limited availability xD
