Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1894. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.
I must admit this letter is a long time coming and you will likely be unsurprised by what I am about to write - but it did come to me as something of a revelation. I think I can finally say that I understand your position on Divination - after a fashion.
I've come to understand that, while Divination often felt in direct odds with what I personally saw, it is a tool that can be used to channel the Inner Eye. I hope you can forgive my ignorance and obstinance on the matter. I was quite young, after all. Then again, I'm sure you hear such platitudes from many of your former students.
I hope you and your family are quite well.
Yours Sincerely,
This revelation surprises me, and few of my former students reach out with such changes in opinion. (Although few of my former students had such strong opinions on Divination beforehand.) Thank you for letting me know, though — I must admit that I am glad to hear this.
May I ask what led to such a shift?
Hoping the same for you and your family,
E. Carmichael
In the past year I've had the occasion to do a bit of self-study of wandlore. Which is a pleasant way of saying 'I've been doing a lot of reading'. While contemplating the concept that the wand is tool that channels a person's magic I realized a similar relationship might exist between Divination methods and a person's inner eye.
Furthermore, with that correlation established the opportunity for others is expansive. Could unaided visions be compared to wandless magic - or spontaneous prophecies be akin to spontaneous magic?
Regardless of what merit those might have - you were due a letter.
T Reid
P.S. While my revelation did feel significant I can't say my conversion has been so great that I could be counted on to be a speaker in your class.
While I am sure you would have been a very interesting speaker regardless, I am no longer teaching at Hogwarts.
I'm glad that wandlore led you here — although I must admit to being jealous at the success of another field — and it does seem possible that spontaneous visions are similar to spontaneous magic. The difference, I suppose, is that one doesn't outgrow spontaneous visions — or at least I have yet to encounter someone who has.
I'm more surprised to hear that than I ought to be. You may have only been a professor my last year at Hogwarts but I still am having trouble imagining you as anything else. I hope it was a change for the better.
T Reid
P.S. It will now be doubly embarrassing if I accidentally call you professor.
