Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1894. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.
Can you believe that it is only a few short months until May, when I graduate?! I know I said this over Christmas already but it feels so much closer now that I am writing 1891 on everything.
How are you? Are you terribly busy with work? I mentioned you to one of my friends the other day and decided it was quite dreadful of you not to write to me ever, so you must have a good excuse for it. Zipporah never knows what you are up to when she writes to me, it’s like she doesn't even remember who you are.
Oh! You were not at that gentlemen’s charity duelling event this weekend, were you? Not in it, obviously, but did you attend? I hope nobody got hurt too badly. Were there lots of respectable men there? Did you see who participated, and who won? Were any of them unmarried
You had better write back to me as I have a Care of Magical Creatures essay to do this week that I need distraction from. Urgently, Jake. Please give me something else to think about. Anything.
My goodness, the anticipation must be settling in. I can't remember which was worse at the time, NEWTs or the debut. Certainly for you young ladies it must be a touch division for your attention. Fortunately I only had to focus on exams.
I am terribly busy, I do apologize. I should write more often. This promotion has me elbow deep in paperwork more often than anything else, so the last thing I'm prepared to do at the end of the day is pick up a quill. However I will endeavor to be more faithful in writing.
I attended the dueling tournament, if that's what you mean? Was quite exciting, even if the results were to be expected. Mr. Faustus Prewett took the whole shebang, which is of course no surprise. I didn't see any major injuries though tended a couple minor ones myself for friends who competed.
I rather enjoyed Creatures as a class, do let me know if you need any help.
