Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Whatever Happened to Charming Eurovision Watch Parties?
#1
I was working when it aired because it legit started at noon my time, but I wanted to make time to watch it and I just finished. My thoughts:

— super duper sad that "Stay" didn't move on from the semifinals. I forget the country, but they had an artist doing live salt drawings and that was a) so elegant and b) incredibly original.

— pretty sure Russia hacked the popular vote. I think they probably stole points from the Czech Republic because Friend of a Friend totally should have been higher imo. The song was catchy and the band was cute and colorful, why wouldn't they get a popular vote?

— how old is Madonna? Because she was practically wheezing during her number, I felt so bad for her. Why did she choose a set with a staircase?

— UK's number sounded like a one man version of NSYNC.

— pretty sure France was hoping they could win on diversity points and therefore didn't invest in production value

— I'm so glad North Macedonia didn't actually win. I liked her song, but... winning Eurovision with one lady standing center stage? No dance, no fancy lights, no projections? At least add a costume change, sheesh.

— Jack's theory about Germany was that they forgot about Eurovision and those two sisters just happened to be vacationing in Tel Aviv that weekend.

— When they read Sweden's popular vote, he looked like he was about ready to strangle someone.

— I was really in to Albania's dress. Super classy but also sexy with those transparent sides to her skirt.

— I was watching with Jack and he was taking great lengths to interpret all of the lyrics as if they were coded messages about the countries' geopolitical state and his commentary was ridiculously funny.

— Australia's number had by far the best use of rubber stilts I've ever seen. Also that song got into my head and my nanny might have overheard me trying to mimic the operatic moment :P

— Iceland.
