Blood Candies Hit Stores
Scamander Woman Alarmed At Accidental Consumption
A candy shop in Diagon Alley quietly debuted a new product at the beginning of 1889: bloodpops.
Miss Helga Scamander believed she was choosing a cherry-flavored lollipop when she picked it up yesterday, only to realize the candy had an alarmingly copper-y taste. Although the product was labeled, it was available amidst the lollipop display right alongside more traditional flavors, and Miss Scamander was reportedly not the first to make the mistake of choosing one.
Bloodpops are either made with blood or are very convincingly flavored, depending on the manufacturer. While the product itself it not entirely new, its prominent display at the London store is. Many have questioned the decision to introduce the product as the spate of recent vampire murders has continued, most recently with the discovery of carnival worker Silence Daisy in the forest surrounding Hogsmeade.
"I don't think it's wise to try and attract that sort of clientele," neighboring shopkeeper Leonard During told our paper. "Especially not in London, where they have no business to be. Busy streets like this, who knows what could happen?"
"I've heard of them, but never thought of selling them myself," said Hogsmeade resident and renowned chocolatier Quincey Honeyduke, owner of Honeyduke's Sweet Shop. "I'm not sure of the actual content, but I prefer to keep the comfort of my patrons priority within the shop, so we won't be stocking them any time soon."
Pressure has been mounting on the London competitor to pull the product, but the store's owner has yet to respond to complaints.
