Did You Know?
Braces, or suspenders, were almost universally worn due to the high cut of men's trousers. Belts did not become common until the 1920s. — MJ
Had it really come to this? Passing Charles Macmillan back and forth like an upright booby prize?

Syd's working relationship with the Department for the Regulation and Control for Magical Creatures extended back to his healing days. After taking over the zoo, he'd only gotten more involved, so it was not unexpected or all that surprising that he'd been called into Adam's office today to handle something in the Beast division. More often than not, it was some creature that had been confiscated that needed a temporary or permanent home, but sometimes he went out with the department to assess a situation and help decide what to do with the creatures in question.

"McKinnon," he greeted with an easy smile as he slid into the man's office after the secretary pointed him back. It wasn't often that Syd left the zoo these days, let alone further than Irvingly, but he was pleased to get out for a bit. He sometimes had to remind himself that he did in fact have time for a life outside of the zoo, even if he rarely took advantage. Perhaps when he was done here, he'd head to Diagon Alley and just peruse, merely for something to do. "What is it I can do for you this morning?" He was curious and frankly, eager to do something different with his day.

Adam loved his job, but some days felt distinctly like he was the last bastion of sanity in a sea of madness. He was certain this was a particular effect of the department he worked in--though the more public-facing departments would probably argue that they had it worse. And they were probably right. Most of the time.

Adam looked up, with some relief, Syd's appearance in his office. "Podmore, thank Merlin," he said. "We have... a situation."[/b] He rubbed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose. The headache hadn't quite started yet, but Adam could feel it coming.

"That good, huh?" Syd wasn't usually summoned into the ministry unless it was something that required him taking in a creature, or creatures, either permanently or temporarily. Sometimes it was quick and easy, sometimes, and he had a feeling this would be the case today, it was more involved and he would need to advise on something more serious.

"Well I'm happy to help however you need. Should I have brought a creature healer with me?" He hated when that was the case, but Syd had enough distrust of people to sometimes know it was necessary. Animals tended to be easier, their motives more clear. The more he worked with creatures the less he understood people and what drove them.

"No--or I don't think so, at least." Well, Adam wouldn't be shocked if they were in for some surprises when they got down to things. He slid a report across his desk toward Syd. "Some guy in Bartonburg's got several Graphorns taking up residence in his back garden." Adam wasn't sure how multiple large, dangerous beasts ended up in the middle of Hogsmeade without someone noticing and reporting it first, but such was his life, apparently. "Apparently, he was breeding them."

His quip had been sarcastic, but he could see where McKinnon might be a little too frazzled to notice. "Brave man," or idiotic. Definitely idiotic. The stupidity of people was actually astonishing sometimes. "I'm curious to know what spells he's using to contain them." Syd picked up the report to read the details. "Oh for fuck's sake." He brought his hand up to pinch the bridge of his nose. They were lucky nobody had been killed by this already.

"I can't take them, but I have a friend with a larger reserve we can probably relocate them to." It wasn't really a matter of where. He could make the necessary arrangements for that, but just how they were supposed to export several large, aggressive, almost-tougher-than-dragons magical beasts peacefully was another thing entirely. "We're going to have to sedate them." He reasoned, trying to think this out somehow.
