Justice Rookwood
#1
In-Character
Full Name: Justice Erasmus Rookwood
Nicknames: "I'm Rookwood. Just Rookwood." *wink wink*
Birthdate: September 02, 1872
Current Age: Fifteen Years
Occupation: Hogwarts Student; Beater
Reputation: 8
You know what sucks? Being an orphan. You know what else sucks? Having your mother suspected for murder-suicide on top of that, despite official rulings that it was an accident.
Residence: Hogsmeade (with his Uncle Eldridge)
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw
Wand: Ash, 11¼ inches, Dragon heartstring, Firm
Blood Status: Pureblood
Social Class: (#Bougie) Middle Class
Family:
Hector Rookwood, Father [1837-1883]
He was a cold and distant man who took pride in his own strengths while belittling others. Never really accomplished much with his life, but still considered himself far superior to others in skill. Died in an accident — or at least that's what the official ruling was. He was not missed by many.
Polymnia "Polly" Rookwood (née -----), Mother [1850-1883]
Long assumed to be a patient, gentle woman by society, gossip began to spread when that facade began slipping in the final years of her marriage. After discovering not one, but two mistresses her husband was keeping, she lost her temper and cast an unfortunately fatal stunning spell upon him. Distraught, she committed suicide via magically-induced explosion in the parlor.
Rosetta Rookwood, Sister [1873]
A sweet girl with a stunningly pretty face, it is only their opposing sexes that kept them from being close as children. In recent years, however, she's begun to blossom into a young lady rather than a little girl, earning her recognizable attention the male population at Hogwarts. This, unsurprisingly, has caused Justice to go from "pleasantly-distant-but-there-when-you-need-him" brother mode to "I'm-watching-you-and-everyone-who-looks-at-you-two-seconds-too-long" mode.
Faye Rookwood, Sister [1877]
Less pretty but exceedingly more intelligent than her elder sister, Faye could be considered a "genius" by modern standards; however, with little desire for a career, she's likely to spend her adult years cooped up in a library. After years of being called out on his lies, Justice often gives her blunt answers to questions — even to the point of exposing her to knowledge she probably shouldn't have at her age. Voted most likely to inform her female friends what sex is before they get married.
Eldridge -----, Uncle/Guardian [1842]
A "wacky scientist" sort who has an entire room in his house dedicated to deformed reptiles, amphibians, and rodents. Justice has wondered on many occasions what he actually does with them, but has always had a nagging feelings that he may get an unsettling answer if he dares ask.
Appearance:
Blessed with the most appealing of genes, Justice has managed to completely avoid any semblance of adolescent awkwardness. He stands at five feet, six inches tall — tall enough, he believes, to be considered "above average" for his age while avoiding any bumped heads or sticking out like a sore thumb. His build is neither notably scrawny nor muscular, but a nutritious diet and constant exercise ensures his muscles are at least toned enough to be noticed which is how he likes them ;).

What used to be an unmanageable mop of dark curls on his head has been styled to seem purposefully messy rather than due to a lack of care, and his eyes are a similar shade. He maintains a straight posture and walks with an arrogant sort of swagger, though always manages to find himself in the oddest positions when nose-deep in a book. He dresses with care, choosing dark shades over bright colors. He is right-handed.

History:
Pre-Birth
A naive and seemingly desperate young debutante, Polymnia falls head-over-heels in love with the gentleman she believes is a true knight in shining armour. Tall, handsome, and incredibly intelligent, he oozes charisma and knows his importance. Against the wishes of her well-meaning friends — many of whom saw past his charming facade — she accepts his first proposal and two marry not but a year later.

Their marriage, while euphoric at first for the newlywed bride, turns dark when her husband refuses her basic rights she feels she should be afforded. Attending parties hosted by ladies her husband is "suspicious" about, a strict curfew, and even physical punishment at any perceived wrongdoing leaves Polymnia with an overwhelming sense of dread as their first anniversary nears. And soon after that? She's pregnant.

Early Years
On September 2nd, 1872, Polymnia manages to please her husband for the first time in a long while by presenting him with their first child, and more importantly, their first son. Complications arise in the weeks following childbirth, but Polymnia's body refuses to succumb to the stress her body's under.

Justice Rookwood is an easy child to manage from the start, and he' soon joined by a younger sister, Rosetta Rookwood, less than a year after his birth in 1873. He earns favor (beyond the existence of a penis) in 1874 when he displays a rather early first sign of magic shortly after his second birthday. It's nothing too dramatic or even noteworthy in stories he'd hear later in life — he causes a magical music box to begin playing in a situation he perceived as awkward silence.

His youngest and final sister, Faye Rookwood, joins the family in 1877. Unfortunately, the summer after her birth brings massive muggle riots after they discover magic, prompting the London-residing Rookwoods to flee to the countryside. Surprise, surprise, the countryside is completely and utterly boring, though it does have perks: without fear of breaking the International Statute of Secrecy, Justice is able to learn how to ride a broomstick in 1879. His love of flying leads to a love of the adjacent quidditch.

Between 1880-1882, Justice continues his education, which includes everything from magical and muggle history; mathematics; reading; composition; and most notably, calligraphy, which would flourish into a full-blown passion by the time he's a teenager or so. Like any normal upper class boy, he's tutored in French, but also learns a bit of Urdu from one of his uncles, who had been doing business in India.

The "Accident"
In the summer of 1883, he and his siblings return home to an auror presence. The details of the day have been suppressed over the years, but he clearly remembers being told that a maid had reported an "accidental explosion" in the family's parlor that resulted in the death of both of his parents.

No other signs of struggle are discovered — at least until the coroner comes in. He declares that Justice's father was hit with a spell before his death, but no one is sure whether that spell came from an intentional attack or the out-of-control wand that caused the explosion. While the investigative team reports that the incident was accidental, the tabloids take advantage of his mother's "recent changes in moods" to make her out to be a murderer.

While based completely off speculation and lacking any sort of valid sources, the tabloids unknowingly reveal the truth about the incident — not that anyone, including the family, knows this. A stunning spell had been cast purposefully, but not with the intent to kill; when it did prove fatal, Polymnia acted rashly and, in an attempt to evade justice (which is ironic, given her son's name), ended her own life.

Thus, their lives as orphans begin.

Justice, along with his two younger sisters, are shipped to live with their Uncle Eldridge in Hogsmeade shortly thereafter. He seems pretty normal (save for a few odd quirks and obsessive habits) until the children discover the room full of deformed reptiles, amphibians, and rodents that their uncle keeps as "pets". Justice does little more than give a side-eyed glance to this, but privately warns his siblings — especially the ever curious Faye — to stay away from that room. (Of course, she totally doesn't listen because she's Faye.)

The months after their parents' deaths bring mixed feelings. Justice has been taught not to show emotion, but feels it's necessary to comfort his sisters. At the same time, though, he's pretty awful at being comforting, and only make things worse. This results in him bottling pretty much everything up, which culminates into a violent — and luckily private — outburst and a subsequent night of tears.

Hogwarts: Intro Years
The summer of 1884 brings his Hogwarts letter, and, soon after, shopping for school supplies. Justice and Rosetta are both scheduled to attend in September due to their spacing of their birthdays.

(The Hogsmeade laughing plague also occupies the public conscious during this period, but none of the Rookwood children are affected by the tragedy. Their uncle begins suffering from the illness, but is able to be cured before the children find themselves mourning the man they've just grown accustomed to.)

September 1st, 1884 marks the beginning of he and Rosetta's Hogwarts education. While Rosetta is (appropriately) sorted into Hufflepuff, Justice finds himself sharing the company of other first year Ravenclaws later that evening. The next day, he turns twelve, and the week after he tries out for quidditch. (He fails, as predicted, but at least it allows him to grasp the skill level the house team is looking for.) He joins the Flying Club and Club Quidditch soon after. The first month of classes prove that there's no one class that Justice excels in over the others — and fortunately, neither is there one he just sucks at.

His second year begins in1885 on a much brighter note, as Justice secures a spot on the Ravenclaw quidditch team as a beater. This proves to be an especially good year for Ravenclaw — both in the house cup and quidditch cup — and Justice returns home for the summer with a wide smile on his face. Champions!

Hogwarts: OWL Years
1886 marks the beginning of his third year (and also the beginning of his downfall). For the first time, he finds himself insanely attracted to members of the opposite sex, even to the point where he misses the contents of entire class periods due to a particularly pretty-looking girl. It doesn't help that he has three extra classes (Ancient Studies, Ancient Runes, and Divination) to worry about.

Not having yet mustered the skills to relay his feelings in a verbal manner, he instead chooses to dazzle ladies with his poetic writing and stunning calligraphy abilities. To some extent, it works, but that may be less because of his master plan and more because he begins developing physically as the year goes on. His first growth spurt (which shoots him up to five feet, four inches tall, much to his delight!) along with a startling change in his voice's pitch that seemingly happens overnight.

He gets his first kiss during Christmas vacation after finding himself under (non-magical) mistletoe with a lady friend who he really considers more of a ladyfriend. Much to his dismay, she seems to lose interest in him once they actually go back to school, leaving his eyes to wander once more.

Fourth year begins in 1887, which is a well-needed break from the summer's drama. Except it's not really a break — not after the first night or two. Ugh. The election brings tension between students, which he gets sick of very quickly; it doesn't help that Topaz Urquart was a Ravenclaw in his year, meaning the gossip is especially concentrated in his demographic. He tends to side with the anti-werewolf crowd just because he's annoyed, though he really does feel sympathy for Miss Urquart's tragedy.
Personality:
ARROGANT. FLIRTATIOUS. PLAYFUL. ATHLETIC. SURPRISINGLY STUDIOUS. QUIET NERD. FEELER.
Other:
Boggart

A pair of disembodied legs, seemingly burnt to a crisp from the knees up. While the legs itself aren't particularly frightening, they bring him back to the very vivid and very memorable nightmares he had in the months after his parents' deaths.

Romance

Justice is very much attracted to the opposite sex, but that isn't to say he could never crush on a member of the same sex. In fact, he's pretty much clueless about the existence of real same-sex relationships, believing homosexuality to simply sexual in nature. He's the sort that wouldn't hesitate to steal a kiss, but would be much less likely to steal anything else.

Skills & Misc. Info

He's very well-read, even for a boy of his wealth and status. He'll enjoy mostly anything put in front of him, but anything poorly-written or with a plot he considers inconceivable is likely to leave him with a sour taste.

His best classes are History of Magic, Ancient Runes, and Ancient Studies, but he's not too rusty with his wand work. He's not the biggest fan of Herbology or Potions class, though.
