Dear Flora,

It is my hope that your summer holidays have been going well. It seems rather funny that we have not had cause to bump into one another as fo yet, and I hope that we might find time to take tea before I depart for Lagos at month's end.

I write with some news that requires I relay some other news, and so shall start at the beginning: I achieved a successful animagus transformation next month. I do hope you will keep this news to yourself as I should like to reveal it to our peers at greatest effect once we return to school. This is necessary information, however, as it leads me to this: I have been invited to the Shapeshifters Ball this week!

I am terribly excited to attend my first proper ball, and this enthusiasm must be tempered at home (Dignity Above All Else is not the de facto family motto, but it might as well be) so I am afraid that you will bear the brunt of it. I thank you in advance for your indulgence.

My final dress fitting was today, and I must say that I look exquisite, if I do say so myself. Father is hiring a photographer for the occasion, to take our portraits before we depart for the evening. It will be dreadful to have to sit, a good extra hour, surely, of our evening, but having a capture of the outfit shall be worth it. I expect I shall have it to show you should fate or scheduling see us returned to our shared company.

Yours fondly,
Iphegenia

Dear Iphegenia,

It is so good to hear from you!

I am, of course, most excited for you! Not only a transformation, but a ball!? I have been making strides in my own efforts to complete the transformation, but Professor ______ advised me not to try anything dangerous over the break without proper guidance, lest I get myself into trouble in more ways than one. I hope that you'll impart you wisdom to me once we return to school this summer.

You must tell me everything. I am sick and tired of wearing black around the house. I loved my Papa dearly and miss him every day, but I do dream of the days when I will be allowed to wear my colors again. I will live vicariously through you in the meantime. I need all the details—of the dress, what the invitation said, what your parents think of your transformation. You did register, right?

Affectionately yours,
Flora
