Lupin might have the pedigree but Staghart had the more recent experience so Enoch, though he was still irked to be an arbiter in the tournament rather than the inevitable victor, had placed a bet on his colleague in good faith that he would win. Still, Lupin was no fool so perhaps he would lose his galleon after all: he had been somewhat drunk at the time of the bet, perhaps he could get out of it yet?

Lionel observed the niceties as the next round of duels began. He started off with a spell that would have vines wrapping around the man - most prominently around his mouth - if it worked right. It would both restrict movement and prevent the man from uttering a counter spell at all if it worked right.

After bowing towards his opponent, Walter took a stance, waiting for the moment Lupin became to cast his spell. He of course knew Lionel Lupin from work but didn't know him so much on a personal level. Not surprising as they weren't in the same class unlikely to have the same friends. It didn't bother Walter, being an Auror he had more advantages than a typical working class gentleman and he enjoyed his work too much to worry about the trivialities of being in a lower class than many he worked with.

As soon as Lupin twitched his wand, Walter cast his own spell, this time a silent casting of the paralyzing spell. One's opponent can't complete their spell if their body was as rigid as stone.

Staghart's spell managed to hit one of the oncoming vines and render it immobile however it's creepy brethren had already reached the auror and wrapped around him tightly, causing his wand to clatter to the ground and Enoch to wonder whether he had placed his bet on the wrong man.

"Mr Lupin takes the round," he vanished the vines. "Staghart, you may being the next when you have retrieved your wand."

Once the vines were dispelled, Walter picked up his wand, annoyed at himself to be caught by such a amateur spell. If he had been better at vineless magic he could have dispelled it on his own. In the end it didn't matter, this wasn't a life and death duel where binding one's opponent was rarely what a dark wizard tried to do when pursued by an Auror.

Taking his spot once more, Walter took a pose and quickly decided on the spell he will cast. No more pussy footing around, time to score a point and keep himself in the tournament. Deciding to use a spell difficult to shield against but still effective at disabling an opponent, Walter cast a spell which would cause a small whirl wind to sweep Lupin up and twist him about fast enough to disorient and make it difficult to cast a spell but not strong enough to physicall harm him or the spectators.

"Langlock," Lionel cast. If his spell worked correctly, the other mans tongue would become affixed to the top of his mouth. Couldn't do much spell casting that way.

Well fuck, he had definitely lost his wager.

Staghart waved his wand well enough but whatever he had been hoping to achieve was lost after Lupin cast his efficient counter. Perhaps, like most aurors, Staghart was due to opponents that were more aggressive, or less intelligent, and Lupin had foiled him in that regard? Yes, that seemed the most likely outcome. Or perhaps it was simply breeding?

"Mr Lupin takes the contest and will advance."
