Julius Scrimgeour vs. Lionel Lupin
#1
24th July, 1892 — Headquarters of the London Society for the Practice of Combative Magic
The Investigation department really must not have enough taxing work to do, if this was the sort of activity they all chose to do on their day off.

Nor did pitting an employee against his superior seem an entirely sensible idea to Evander, but who was he to judge? (Well. He was in fact here to judge.) Hopefully there was no rancour between them. After the rules, then, Evander stepped back and bade Mr. Scrimgeour begin.

That it would be his superior (professionally speaking, at least) that he would be facing off against first struck Julius as one of life's little ironies, though he did not wish to dwell upon it. The summer had been...difficult, professionally speaking, so far, and he was eager for even the brief respite that dueling would provide. The wizard did his best to clear his mind and focus on the task at hand as Darrow went through his motions.

Wand at the ready, Julius cast a quick, wordless stinging hex.

Lionel found it a little amusing that he was being pitted against Scrimgeour. If Scrimgeour emerged victor, Lionel would be very impressed with him indeed. Not that he had any intentions of not doing his best to win himself, of course. He cast a spell that would have the other mans wand turning to stone.

The audience collectively held their breath as the spells shot past one another, but Scrimgeour's attack whizzed past Lupin's ear, and if this had been a real duel, any further attacks rendered futile by the now-stony wand in his grasp.

Undoing the effects (with a care not to roll his eyes at all this), Evander nodded towards Lupin. "Mr. Lupin takes the round. His turn to cast."

When he was bid to begin the next round, Lionel cast a spell that would have the other man breaking out in boils if it hit its mark.

Well. They had now found their winner, established – predictably – that Mr. Lupin was the more experienced wizard between them, and lucky Mr. Scrimgeour now had a nasty case of boils with which to contend.

"Mr. Lupin will proceed to the next round of the tournament. Commiserations, Mr. Scrimgeour," he said dryly. Evander hoped they'd had fun.
