Dear Helga/Nora,
I hope you will forgive me for not writing sooner, but I could not risk it. By the time you read this I will be a married woman, but not Mrs. Durant Lécuyer as you had expected. Instead I will be Mrs. Ace Lukeson. You know that I was not happy with the match my mother had made, but I understand her reasons. However, when Mr. Lukeson and myself realized the true depths of my feelings I could not go through with it. My conscious would not permit a loveless match. As such Mr. Lukeson and I have left to be married.
As you are my dear friend I did not wish you to hear of this from anyone other than myself. You will forgive my secrecy I hope.
Know that I think of you fondly and wish all the best for you. I will always be here for you, however for the time being I think it best if I keep my distance. I would hope that your own match shall be as full of bliss and happiness as mine will surely be.
Your Friend,
Lucille
