Appearance: Anselm is a giant of a man. At 6'5'' he towers above most other men. Years of physical labour has left him heavily muscled and broad shouldered. He has long brown hair, worn in a long braid, and a beard that is slightly darker. His skin is somewhat leathery from years of working outdoors. He wears simple clothes, suitable for arduous work, prefering green and browns. He wears a leather belt, with numerous bags containing keys, tools etc. His dominant hand is his left.
History: Anselm was born in a small village in Northumberland. His father and mother were from proud, but poor, pureblood family. Oswald, his father, was a Parslemouth, and 'Selmy' inherited the skill. It was something he took immense proud in from a young age. At five years old his parents gifted him a python that he called Spotty, an idea that his mother Mary had in a dream. She became his closest companion. Unfortunately no other children would join the family. Anselm helped out on the families small farm, from which they scraped a living. He came to love the outdoors, animals and plants. There was a nearby forest, where he would walk for hours. Spotty would help him catch food for the family during the walks.
At 11 he went of to Hogwarts, to the great surprise of his family, he was sorted into Gryffindor! His father reckoned he was the first in the family to not be sorted into Slytherin for at least six generations. He was a rather quiet boy, and did not make friends quickly. He had hand-me-down clothes, and struggled at first to catch up with his well off classmates. He went through the first of many growth spurts, and people began to mock him. He was really a gentle giant though.
It took a few years for him to really settle into the school. And it was Quidditch that did it. In third year he became a beater. Through the sport he made a two great friends, who he has stayed in contact with the rest of his life. He also had his first dalliance with love, becoming smitten with a girl called Beth. It did not last long, and he moved onto the next girl soon after.
Selmy took COMC and Ancient Runes at OWL level, and he did very well across the board. Getting Os or Es in all of his subjects. He decided not to stay on, his parents were struggling to put him through school, and he decided to become a Hit Wizard, returning to help out at the farm until he turned 17. He loved being a Hit Wizard. It was great to have his own money, and he shared a small flat with his two Hogwarts friends. He loved the sense of pride he got from his job, and he had always enjoyed dueling.
His mother passed when he was 22. She had been ill for the last year or so, and he was able to be beside her when she died. He had saved up, and managed to get his own small flat, and his father moved in with him so they could support each other during the grieving process. His father was a shadow of his former self for six years, until he met Margaret. Margaret was also a widow, a few years younger than Oswald. They began courting, and were married when Anselm was 29. Margaret had two children, Matthew and Jane, and slowly the extended step family bonded.
It was around this time that Spotty, his pet python passed away.
By 30 Anselm had carved quite a name for himself at the Ministry. He was a talented Hit Wizard, if a bit hard to get on with. He was serious, quiet, and rather guarded. But he could certainly be relied upon to get the job done, and have his fellow Hit Wizard's backs. At 31 he was pursuing a wizard suspected of murdering two young women, who was hiding in the Welsh hills. He caught up to him, and there was a brutal duel, by far the worst he had ever been in. In the end Anselm won, but the criminal was left dead. It was the first man he had ever killed. And it was a haunting realisation for Anselm. He had always thought he was prepared to kill, but he retired afterwards. He had sleepless nights, and he took some time off work with his father to recover.
He worked on the old family farm again. He enjoyed being outdoors again, and he loved being able to see the impact of his work. Whether it was a chopped down tree, or a new fence. He also decided to find a new serpentine companion. He bought an egg, a breed of magical snake similar to the common python's muggles are familiar with, but that grow quicker and are more intelligent. When it hatched he named her Sandy. Not too long after he saw that Hogwarts was looking for a Groundskeeper. He applied, and was successful.

Sample Roleplay Post: The repetitive whack of the axe upon the ancient tree was music to Anselm's ears. He allowed his mind to drift, to memories good and bad. Being at Hogwarts had brought back lots of those. His time on the Quidditch team, his close friendships, and first attempts at love. The tree fell, with a great crash. He was making a clearing for the Care of Magical Creatures Professor. He drew his wand, with a flick he picked up the great tree and moved it out of the way. He used magic sparingly during his work. Only when he knew his own strength would not be enough.
He drew his axe again and began to hew the tree into smaller chunks, that he would later use to build an enclosure in the clearing. He heard the sound of leaves crunching and turned. ''Hello you,'' Selmy said in Parsletongue. He saw Sandy, she had grown to around four and a half feet now, and was growing still. she was a great companion. Harmless, well harmless to humans, she enjoyed being scratched under her chin. She quickly slid up his legs, around his body, and wrapped herself over his shoulders. He stroked her head with a finger on his left hand. ''Have you eaten today?'' He asked, concerned. She had been off her food lately, she replied, telling him she had not and that she still felt rather under the weather.
