Once or twice she has been caught in the garden, but fled inside as soon as she noticed she was being watched.

History:
- 1885: Ariana Isolde Dumbledore is born.
- 1889: Little Ariana proves to be rather airheaded, but sometimes even more-so than can be reasonably explained. She babbles nonsense, sometimes, about birds in the dead of winter, or storms on a sunny day, or the color of an unfamiliar door. Her mother passes the oddities off as a child with a vivid imagination. Her father is the first to notice a correlation between her unusual observations, and people or places they might see weeks– or even months– later.
- 1891: Ariana wanders out by the back garden gate to practice her magic in what she believes to be seclusion. She has unusually strong control of her powers for a child her age, but on this day she has the misfortune of being spotted by a pair of particularly prejudiced Muggle boys. The attack leaves her battered and badly shaken, fearful of rope and of fire– she does not speak again for weeks, and she is never quite herself again. Worse still, her father goes after the boys who hurt her. His retaliation disgraces the family, and puts him in Azkaban for life.
- 1892: Near silent in the company of any save her brothers, wild-eyed and no longer able to control the magic which comes along with any emotional outburst, Ariana lives in seclusion. She ventures out of doors only once– when the family packs up their things and moves to Godric’s Hollow, in search of a fresh start.
- 1894: Ariana speaks more, now, though what she says is no more likely to make sense. Sometimes she seems to share a reality with her kin, and others she babbles in poetic nonsense, stringing together what must be vivid dreams. With her brothers’ help she has regained some small piece of herself– those bursts of uncontrollable magic are no longer daily occurrences, and she begins to demonstrate a passing interest in the world beyond her rooms. Her mother insists that Ariana remain secluded regardless– such an oddity will do nothing for the family’s reputation as they struggle to crawl back to some semblance of respectability and wealth.

Soft-spoken, shy, and several years a shut-in, not many know Ariana as anything more than a figure watching from a window. Any who knew the cheerful child she once was, the Dumbledores left behind when they moved away to Godric’s Hollow. Though she has much improved over these last two years– for a good while Ariana would not speak even to her brothers– she remains decidedly odd. Quick to squirm away from even the gentlest touch, prone to losing track of conversations mid-way through or even resuming them without warning several days hence, her mother keeps her carefully shrouded from prying eyes. As much for the good of the family as for her own.
Only recently has this seclusion become a problem for Ariana. The girl wants nothing to do with the eyes of the public, but as she creeps out of her shell she finds herself drawn back out to the gardens. To the birdsong and the humming of insects, and the soft caress of sun-scented grass. Her cozy little room has become suffocating. Dull. Thus, Ariana has developed a new habit of sneaking out into the gardens while her mother is otherwise occupied.
Other:
- A budding seer, the attack she suffered left her Sight just as rattled as the rest of her powers. Her visions are frenetic, sliding in and out of her perception with little coherence, glimpsed in disjointed fragments and often overlapping her own reality. This renders Ariana easily distracted and jumpy, but what she sees is rarely of use.
- Ariana does not sleep consistently, or well. Plagued frequently by nightmares, she is oft to be found wandering about the halls at night, and sleeping late in the day. She struggles less with a peaceful rest when the sun is up, and her windows thrown open to welcome the singing birds.
