Must be those American roots, because the Plunkett boys are tall and broad. Declan is no exception, standing at six feet, he’s built up quite a bit of muscle just by purely working on the farm. Spending as much time as he does outside, he’s tan and freckled. His sandy hair wavers between brown and dark blond, pending how much sun he’s getting. Dark green eyes are constantly observing those around him and he’s quick to smile. On the farm, Declan dresses for the work he is doing and carries himself with agility and confidence. Off the farm, he finds anything “formal” to be scratchy and uncomfortable and he tends to try and stay out of the way as much as possible. He is right-handed.History:
Personality:
Young Love
Whirlwind RomanceBertram and Betty had a short and fast courtship in which they married abruptly. Maybe it was love at first sight, maybe they were trying to cover up the babe that came nine months later, but either way, they wanted to return to England and to leave the scandal behind. 1860
A Son!Hugh is born to the happy couple. Gossip from home stresses Betty out a little so she dives into making her mark on Bert’s family farm. January 1862
AnotherAnother son joins the first, this one to be called Alfred, quickly dubbed Fred. July 1863
Rapid FireA mere eighteen months after Fred is born, Declan joins the family. Betty really knows how to pop them out by now, strong, sturdy boys. Good thing they live on a farm. Late 1864 Larkin joins the brood. It’s getting real now. 1866
The LastFive is good right? Cole is the last born to the family. It’s Plenty. 1870
Summer VisitsThe boys spend most of the summer with their mother’s parents and quite Declan enjoys it. He learns a lot, even though his mother has already seen to his very well-rounded education both with books and on the farm. 1871 Hugh heads off to Hogwarts. Declan displays his first sign of magic when he saves a bunny from drowning in the small duck pond on the property. 1873 Fred takes his turn and is sorted into Gryffindor. That fits. 1874-1879
HogwartsDeclan joins his brothers and is sorted into Hufflepuff rather quickly. School is miserable for Declan. He’s awkward looking, awkward in conversation, academics are tough for him and he just generally struggles to make friends and do well in academics. He does well in practical classes, herbology, creatures, potions, but not very well in others. Always having been one to work well with his hands, anything that reminds him of home is a good place for him to be. An unsuspecting class he does well in is astronomy, having spent his life growing up with the clear skies over the farm, he picks it up quickly. His only saving grace socially is that he’s pretty quick-witted, so funny, but it’s not his favorite way to make friends.
In 1877 the upheaval in the magical community directly rocks the Plunkett family and they are quickly packed up and moved to Hogsmeade where modest acreage is purchased east of town and the Plunkett General Store is opened. Declan is largely left out of it, still at school for the big stuff.
Five years of torture is enough and Declan knows it’s a lifetime on the farm for him, so he takes his OWLs and that’s that. Brothers come and go ahead and behind him during this time, but he’s just always sort of in the shadows and trying to muddle through.1879 – Present
Farm LifeThe rest of puberty was kind to Declan. Not to mention working on the farm day in and day out gives one a certain physique. Declan’s soft spot for animals has him working more on that side of the farm than the agriculture side. He has a small herd of Scottish Highland cows; handles the diary cows; chickens; goats; anything really. There are a pair of livestock guardian dogs on the property, Scottish deerhounds, Layla and Scout that keep the animals safe. Declan has also trained a Border Collie, Daisy, to help with the sheep. She is more his personal pet than the other two. He’s a big fan of doing things by hand, with hard work and effort. He and Fred start and lose a few hobbies here and there, though Fred’s foray into furniture has Declan learning to carve and whittle, which he winds up being pretty good at, so keeps that up as his own.
Declan is rarely found in the shop or off the farm if it isn’t farm related. He’s still a little awkward around people, reverting back to his school days when in town, despite his glow up.
GROUNDED | HUMBLE | AWKWARD
Declan is a soft-spoken, kind-hearted soul who does better with animals than people. He’s a gentle giant and though quiet, is observant. He’s a little shy and awkward, remnants of his youth, but is quick-witted and somewhat charming once you get to know him. He can be uncertain of himself and lacks social courage, but he would give anyone the shirt off his back and likes to make people smile. Driven by loyalty he’s quick to give it, but slow to give it back if someone loses it. His family is everything and he would do anything for them.
