Appearance: Hair: Dark, a little longer than is fashionable, In his youth it was pitch black and although still dark, there are increasingly more noticeable strands of white. He doesn’t appear to be going grey, but instead the strands which have lost their colour are snow white. When he takes a notion to grow a beard it's almost entirely white with a patch of dark hair just under his chin.
Eyes: his eyes are heavily hooded, but also a bright green, the only ‘bright’ thing about him.
Clothing: Bernard wears dark colours, usually in severe cuts. He prefers muggle clothing and long cloaks.
Deportment: He seems to be trying to make himself invisible in any room that he is. He is 5ft9 inches, tall for the men in the family, although appears shorter because of the way he carries himself. He is right handed.
History:
Bernard is born the last child of his parents. Many of his siblings are much older than he so he isn’t especially close with many of them.
While still too young to care his eldest brother marries Harriet Prewett. There was a party, he wasn’t allowed to go - there was some cake sent to the nursery.
Form an early age he has visions of all sorts of minor calamaties and catastrophies. Its during one of these that he displays his first accidental magic – he had a vision of his nanny tripping over his toy train that he had abandoned on the floor of the nursery. He cried out to warn her and in doing so picked the nanny up off the floor and slammed her into the ceiling – breaking the poor woman’s arm. She recovered.
At 10 years old he gains a nephew – that feels a bit odd but he doesn’t much mind. At 11 he is dispatched to Hogwarts and sorted into Ravenclaw, he very much feels it was a default as he wasn’t brave enough for Gryffindor, nor ambitious enough for slytherin, nor indeed loyal or hard working enough for Hufflepuff. But he is a good book learner and has a capacity for information even if he has no interesting in using the information.
In his 3rd year when he takes Divination he realizes what he ‘is’, and although he tries to develop his ability it stays almost exclusively limited to ‘bad’ things or elements of bad luck.
In 1856 he is made prefect – he isn’t especially jazzed about it. It seems like a lot of work, and it transpires that his Head of House thought it would help make him more assertive. It doesn’t.
He does well in his OWLs and progresses to his NEWTs. His forte is very much theoretical or speculative subjects. He takes Divination, arithmancy, and ancient runes, alongside alchemy, and potions.
He leaves school and taken on at the ministry in a junior position before, at 21, joining the department of ministries.
In 1868 his brother was killed by aurors – the seer ought to have seen it coming.
When he was 31, Faris Spavin nominated him for the Wizengemot believing that the upperclass, pureblood Prewett was a likely candidate for a future head of the department, or destined for some higher office based almost purely on nepotism. Spavin was looking to shore up support from certain families. Given the rather recent scandal of his brothers death, the application does not proceed - Bernard is relieved and has rather avoided any subsequent ministers for magic - lest they get a similar idea.
There are plenty more births, deaths and marriages that follow – some of which he knew about, some he didn’t but all of which he turned up for.
He never progressed to any higher office within the Department of Mysteries with Urquart ascending to Minister and returning to the department in the same time period in which Bernard did exactly no departmental climbing.
Personality:
Misanthrope is perhaps too strong a term, but he likes who is likes and finds if difficult to bother with those he doesn’t. He isn’t malicious or even rude, but he is deeply cynical and has an almost pathological dislike of interacting with strangers.
He likes his family and can really only truly be said to enjoy their company and that of a few very close friends, chosen for their company not their station, but is more likely to be reading in a corner of the festivities or watching than taking part. He is closeer to Harriet than to some of his own siblings – she has been a Prewett almost as long as he has!
He isn’t ambitious but fulfils all necessary social obligations. He can be defensive when things he likes are challenged.
Bernard has trouble meeting people’s eyes as he anxious about it triggering a vision, this coupled with some minor hearing loss means he looks at your mouth when speaking. It’s not especially noticeable, other than you’ll be aware that he isn’t making the sort of commanding eye contact of more self confident men.
Only really loosens up when he’s had some drinks

He has a pet Augury, he doesn’t particularly like it, but feels rather obligated to look after it, so it spends most of its time at his Townhouse.
He has an Irish Wolfhound, which was a friends who died, and was willed to him, it’s also called Bernard he didn't name it.
