June 24th, 1890 — Pendergast & Lestrange wedding

After the eventful house party of the previous day, Ellory was in no shape for her brother's wedding. The billywig she had brought over from Australia had somehow gotten loose and it had stung her and some other guests. Thankfully for her, Claude knew how to handle such situations and he had stopped the creature before it caused any more chaos. He had also likely pulled some strings in the Ministry so his wife wouldn't get in trouble for letting an XXX classified creature loose.

The stings had made her giddy for hours. On top of that, Ellory would randomly levitate off the ground for a minute or two. She was given some sort of potion to battle off the effects of the sting, but Ellory had been horrified to discover that they persisted on the following day.

She was having a conversation with someone at the wedding when she suddenly felt like her feet were no longer firm on the ground!

Open to anyone invited to William and Cornelia's wedding!

Despite having attended a party with pretty much the same guest list not two weeks ago, Nora was no more comfortable at this Pendergast-Lestrange wedding than she had been at the last. Thank Merlin for Elwin and Evelyn to keep her company. Gaston was wandering around somewhere too, so at least she had some allies today. Being an Abercrombie was nothing to sniffle at, but it was not quite as impressive as being a Pendergast or Lestrange.

Fortunately Nora had found herself conversing with the the newlywed Ellory Lestrange, whose company she was enjoying immensely as she had found the new Mrs. Lestrange to be quite enigmatic and engaging. It required little effort on Nora's part to converse with Ellory and so far the discussion about her recent honeymoon to Australia was quite the tale!

"Oh! She gasped when Ellory started to float. "Mrs. Lestrange are you quite alright?" Nora didn't quite know what to do, but tentatively reached out to take Ellory's wrist to keep her from floating too far!

Thank Merlin for Miss Abercrombie's quick reflexes! With them being out in the open, there was no saying how far up Ellory could have floated!

"I was stung by a billywig yesterday!" Ellory confided with a hushed tone. She felt like she could trust Nora Abercrombie with that information. However, it would be best if she wasn't seen floating by some of the other guests. Uncle Lucius would be furious if he saw his firstborn's wife humiliate herself in such a fashion!

"Can you, uh, charm my shoes so they are really heavy?" There was no way of saying how long the floating effects would last!

Oh! Well that was quite the conundrum! Nora was going to ask if she knew what had happened, but it appeared Mrs. Lestrange was going to voluntarily share the information! "My goodness, that's not what I was expecting." Nora admitted, trying not to chuckle. Where did one get a billywig anyway? Nora hadn't taken Care of Magical creatures, but she was fairly certain they did not reside naturally in Scotland!

"I'm afraid I don't have my wand on me," Nora didn't typically bring it to social events with her, but perhaps she might after this. Adjusting her grip on Mrs. Lestrange's wrist to keep hold and so as not to hurt her, Nora looked up and then around helplessly to see if there was someone who could help her. "Do you have yours?"

Ellory could never understand the fashion of women not bringing their wands with them whenever they went. Evey was like that and it had been suggested at finishing school that a lady of good society didn't really need a wand at social events. If something happened that would need the use of a wand, there would be a man around to help.

Well, Claude wasn't around to be the man and charm her shoes and thankfully, Ellory always brought her wand with her.

"Here," Ellory struggled a bit to remove her wand with her free hand, seeing that the pocket was awkwardly situated on the other side. "It's a very friendly wand, don't hesitate at all!" Ellory still remembered Mr. Ollivander's description of her wand after all these years. It was a flexible wand, friendly, like its owner.

Like most witches and wizards, Nora shied away from using another's wand herself, it felt like an incredible invasion of privacy, but the alternative was holding onto Mrs. Lestrange until she stopped floating, or let go and neither sounded like they would go particularly well.

Taking the foreign wand in hand, Nora floundered just briefly over what spell to cast. She didn't want to cause too much of a ruckus, and Ellory's suggestion of weighing down her shoes was a good idea, it wouldn't be very practical if she wanted to walk after this. Of course Nora didn't know what was causing the floating either, which would help. Finally a solution came to mind and so Nora cast a quiet shield charm above Ellory's head and directed it lower, pushing the new bride back to the floor. At least Ellory had been right, it was a friendly wand.

"It should hold you down for a while?" She offered the wand back to its owner. "I thought you might still want to walk around until to wears off." The less attention it drew, the better.

"That was brilliant," Ellory commented as the younger woman's shield lowered her back to the ground. "I would never have thought of that. Were you a Ravenclaw at school?" She wouldn't be surprised, given the girl's out-of-the-box problem-solving skills.

Nora smiled sheepishly. Hopefully the idea worked. A shield charm didn't last all that long, but at least now Mrs. Lestrange could reinforce it if she needed to. "No, a Hufflepuff, but I do like puzzles." Nora had always thought she would have felt equally as comfortable in Ravenclaw tower at Hogwarts, but had thrived in Hufflepuff where people were actively outgoing and friendly. The alternative would have likely left her feeling quite lonely.

"I like to read too," She wasn't building a strong case for her house, but it was the truth. "You were a Gryffindor, yes?" Nora remembered Ellory from school, though only a little. There was a couple of years between them and though they ran in similar circles, Ellory had been far more outgoing that Nora would ever be.

Ellory had had many friends in Hufflepuff. That being said, as a Gryffindor, she did think that Hufflepuffs were more... sidekick material. They were great friends because they were kind and helpful and friendly and usually agreed to do anything with their friends.

‘‘Yes,’’ Ellory replied. ‘‘By the time I went to school, it was no longer that eyebrow-raising for me to be sorted there. You see, my brothers were sorted into Gryffindor and Hufflepuff.’’ It was only the girls who had been sorted into Slytherin. If Ellory had to guess, she'd put little Regina there, too. Or Ravenclaw, perhaps. It would be amusing if someone got sorted there as well.

‘‘Did your family have such sorting traditions as well?’’

"Not really. My siblings are all quite a bit older than I am, but we're a little all over the map. It was expected for me to be a Ravenclaw, but the Sorting Hat had different ideas." Hufflepuff had suited her just fine. She'd felt very at home there, after getting over the surprise. It was not a typical sorting for ladies of her station, but there was no arguing with the Hat either.

"I didn't share a house with any of my siblings, it was... refreshing." She'd had the independence to be her own person while at school. It had been delightful actually. Making friends hadn't been all that hard, she had a couple of close friends even now, there was little to complain about really, aside from the teasing from her brothers every once in a while.

"The Hat makes no mistake!" Ellory commented. Also, Hufflepuff was never someone's first choice as to where to be sorted. It seemed that it was great fun to be a Hufflepuff and rumour had it that they had the nicest common room at the castle. That being said, Hufflepuff was the most lowkey house of them all and that was why nobody picked it first.

"I understand what you mean. It is nice to be your own person." One thing she liked about being married, apart from the sex, was that she was no longer under Evelyn's care. She could make decisions for herself. Claude wasn't the sort of husband to impose strict rules on her either.

She liked Miss Abercrombie and the two continued talking and enjoying each other's company.
