ALRIGHT folks I am in a pickle. Usually my brain is pretty good at cooking up curses and plots and things for my charries but this brain block has been going on for a few days now so it's time to call in the cavalry aka you guys Innocent

Dominic here is the victim of a blood curse on his mother's side.

From his app:

Her family - Dominic's maternal line - has a blood curse placed upon each of the females wherein it affects their first born male. The details, however, do not make themselves known until two events occur: they turn 17, and until they cause the death of someone. For his part, Dominic is appropriately horrified and immediately wonders if his sister’s death had triggered the first part of the curse. Seeing his thought process, his mother quickly tries to banish that, however it will only be proven once he turns 17. Once both requirements are fulfilled, the curse makes itself known quite obviously soon after: the cost of taking a life requires life to be taken from the cursed. Magical beings are known for living longer; the curse will render his immune system weaker, and non-reactive to any number of magical remedies.

I have a weakness for leveraging the magical world against my characters, so I like this idea but I originally had thought to incorporate animal transformation (I was thinking bear) into this blood curse. Thing is, I'm at a loss as to how to incorporate the animal transformation into the magical immune system failure, and my brain will not function past this.

Any ideas?

Okay I am not sure I understand your question/goals so this may be way off base but I am HERE FOR CURSES so happy to throw some spaghetti at the walls.

Involuntary animal transfiguration as an underlying illness? Like it's always there but could have "flare ups" more and more frequently as your immune system gets worse? (Not so fun fact, if you've ever had mono you technically have it forever, you're just asymptomatic after the initial bout... but it CAN flare up and reoccur. A kid I knew in undergrad got mono EVERY SPRING when his allergies got bad, it made it basically impossible for him to take any serious coursework in a spring semester because at some point he'd have to miss like two weeks of class to just sleep off the mono!)

Lmao sorry, yes that is EXACTLY the connection between illness and transformation that I was looking for! Honestly I was thinking of just DMing you cause I know you have a thing for curses so clearly I should have just trusted my instincts and done that lmfao

Hey, hope it's ok to jump in. Cool idea!

From a roleplay angle, what about adding psychological symptoms? Body and mind are always connected.

The curse seems to have a death-theme. You could have flare ups with temporary breaks from reality, visions, fever dreams (that may be true or not) themed around death that leave him both physically and mentally exhausted and weakened.

And partial or full transformation to a creature that is associated with death or is connected to the person or creature who placed the curse on the family, to connect it back to the origin.

OH I really like this idea too, thank you so much! :D I'll definitely keep it in mind when it's time for the curse to trigger >DD
