Emrys decided he probably ought to marry this year and he put a lot of time and effort into selecting the ideal wife — except then her parents said they didn't approve and wouldn't let him court her, and he is SALTY AF about it. (you can catch him on the rebound at Liliana's wedding)
Come July, one of the following things will happen. I am seeking your input to determine which one, and how it goes from there
Important to note I have no endgame in mind for any of these — volunteering your woman as tribute is not necessarily signing up for a marriage because we'll have to see how things play out!
THE "SURE THING, CAN'T LOSE" ROUTE
— Emrys asks to court someone he doesn't particularly like because he is 90% confident they'll agree to it and it'll help his pride to have an easy win.
— whether this courtship goes anywhere or whether he ends up hating himself is tbd.
— my top choices would be @"Verity Greengrass" @"Helga Scamander" or Loretta Browne
THE "I CAN BUY YOUR LOVE" ROUTE
— involves 1-3 women whom Emrys would consider marriage material (ideally UCPB but MCPB works too), whom he may or may not ask to officially court but will send exorbitantly expensive, high visibility gifts to in the meantime.
— anyone on any iteration of the list would work!
— my top choices would be Ingrid Rowle, Angeline Malfoy or Clarissa Cosgrove
— how your gal responded to melodramatic displays of affection is up to you!
— NB: apparently Emrys thinks Frida Lestrange is a catch (unsure if this is because of her last name or her Head Girl status or what but - do with that what you will, Bree :P)
THE "YOU WANNA SEE A BAD REPUTATION? I'LL SHOW YOU A BAD REPUTATION" ROUTE
— Emrys decides fuck it, he didn't want to marry anyway, he just wanted to dispel any potential rumors that he was a confirmed bachelor in the sense of running around with dudes. You know what else will dispel those rumors just as quickly? Very publicly running around with loose women.
— would involve some high-profile appearances with someone like Ester Montgomery or Florence Fox on his arm
— let things spiral from there. Would all you other Selwyns be disappointed about your reputation dings? Well too damn bad D<
THE "MERCENARY MARRIAGE" ROUTE
— Emrys and a young woman agree to start courting, but neither with the intention of actually marrying. For Emrys this is a way to gain the benefits of marrying (ie everyone sees him being actively into wife-hunting) without the follow-through. What's in it for your girl? Up to you — maybe trying to make someone jealous, maybe hopes she can trap him into a marriage, whatever.

A LITTLE OF OPTION A, A LITTLE OF OPTION B
— Emrys enters into a rash engagement with someone who is somehow ~scandalous or wholly unfit. Could be: halfblood, WC/MC, courting someone else, Ginevra Blackwood, whatever. Basically this is a knee-jerk "fuck you" reaction on Emrys' part.
— he may regret it later and it may not actually result in marriage, so.
— you could sue him for a breach of promise if that happens?
