He occasionally keeps his hair longer than is conventional, but it's mostly short and messy. He is on the thinner side, but his work keeps him from being a waif. He prefers Muggle style clothing and his wardrobe tends to be shabby. He is left handed.

History:

Emmett has never been sure about where he comes from.

He was born in February of 1859 to parents who hailed from the Cherokee Nation, but they died from illness when he was still an infant. He was "adopted" by missionaries looking to convert people who they saw as ignorant heathens. The family who took him in named him, but he was never really their son and he knew it. To them Emmett was an experiment, a project, to see if Native people could truly be assimilated into colonial society. Taught to be seen and not heard, he was regularly shown off at church and elsewhere as an example of God's redeeming power. At an unfortunately early age, Emmett was well aware that his "family" saw him as living propaganda. He resented them fiercely for it.

The older he grew, the more his negative feelings ballooned. He had no outlet, no place to hide from prying eyes that saw him as something to be controlled rather than someone to be cared for. He began to push against the restrictions that had been leveled against him. Rebellion meant punishment and that pushed Emmett over the edge, into his first act of magic. When his adoptive father tried to take a belt to him, the belt became a large snake, wound tightly around the man's arm. The transformation shocked the both of them, but it was Emmett who moved first. He didn't understand what had happened, yet it was obvious he would take the blame for it. God fearing people didn't take kindly to the sudden appearance of serpents. Emmett burst out of the house that had been his prison and ran. He never looked back and no one ever looked for him.

For a time, he survived by passing himself off as an older boy, drifting from town to town on the east coast, and taking work from anyone who would give it to him. Eventually, he found another home in Boston with an elderly artist - Mister Wendel Jones - who needed an extra pair of hands to keep working. Emmett did Wendel's errands, managed his supplies, and prepared his canvases to start. When it became clear that Emmett had more than a passing interest in his art, Wendel took him on as a sort of apprentice and taught him the delicate work of creation. Emmett took to the craft well and his talent bloomed rapidly. He was just getting used to the idea of having a future in the art trade when he turned eleven and a wizard from Ilvermorny showed up on his doorstep. Emmett would've found it far more difficult to believe what he was being told about the magical world had it not been for the incident with the snake. Suddenly, the most terrifying moment of his life made sense. He was a wizard and that changed everything. Wendel, in his kindness, gave Emmett his blessing and his surname.

When September of 1870, Emmett left Boston to attend Ilvermorny. He was sorted into Pukwudgie house and found another place to belong. Happiness came easier to him at school than it ever had. He proved to be academically gifted and was able to remain at school for all seven years on the back of that. His strengths were in derivatives of healing magic. This, along with his affinity for animals, led him off the path of an artist for good. Over the summers he still helped Wendel and dabbled in art, but his true interests were elsewhere. When Emmett graduated in 1877, he spent one last summer in the city before setting out westward. Through school, he'd been connected to a number of magizoologists based in the southwest and there was plenty of work there for a budding creature healer.

For many years, Emmett worked on honing his craft and fell more deeply in love with the work than he thought possible. Trips back to Boston were infrequent, but he wrote Wendel regularly, pages and pages about his encounters with magical creatures and the magical community at large. He fell into a motley crew of healers who all worked to become animagi in 1879. From 1881 to 1887, Emmett assisted Navajo wizards who were monitoring the populations of various species in the wild. He was briefly entangled with a member of the group, but the relationship fizzled out into awkward tension. He parted ways with them after he received a letter from Wendel saying that he was in ill health. Shortly after returning to Boston for the last time, Emmett's long time mentor and father figure passed away. After the funeral, Emmett goes back out west.

In 1888, Emmett came to be employed at a zoo in Colorado. A year later, during the summer of 1889, Emmett found himself with another crew, this time researching Thunderbirds in Arizona. There was a strong sense of camaraderie among them, but he felt a bit more than that for Eavan - the woman in their company. He was shy with her and struggled to express himself in words so Emmett gave her art instead. It was not exactly a confession, but it was as close as he could get. His feelings and his inability to convey them made it awfully hard for him to watch her gravitate towards another man. He cared for them both - Eavan and Beau - but it still stung. When they both left in March of 1890, Emmett was full of regret and unresolved angst. Moving past it was the smart thing to do, but Emmett just couldn't. After Eavan invited the research team across the pond to enjoy the Quidditch World Cup, he jumped at the opportunity.

Maybe this was a sign that he still had a chance.

Maybe she'd change her mind if he could just tell her how he felt.

Of course, such things are only simple in fairy tales.

Personality: Quiet, observant, fiercely loyal, conscientious, dedicated, hard working, gentle, finds solace in art, has a negative view of organized religion, has a strong affinity for animals.

Other: - He is an animagus, a white fox in form.

- He experiences attraction to others based exclusively on emotional connection as opposed to a physical 'spark'.
