Put a stopper in death (NEWT Potions)

January 9th, 1893 — Potions Dungeon

'I'm sure you will all be familiar with Veritaserum, or at least with it's properties and uses.' he explained. 'Something that will be important for you to know, and will likely come up on the exam will be the antidote to Veritaserum.' he indicated the board, where the long and technical description of the potions creation appeared magically in Meserimus' neat script.

'While this potion is unlikely to come up in the practical exam, questions on the processes associated with it may come up on the written exam, and to that end it is useful to familiarise yourself with the detail of the potion and it's brewing.'

Meserimus will move through the desks and 'grade' the potion every time you post, and there will be a weighted final score for the final potion. If you post 3 times you 'completed' the potion.
1-5 -potion backfires
6-10 - doesnt work

As much as she loved potions class - she really did - sometimes she had to question how much of this knowledge they'd use in their day to day lives. Maybe one or two of the people in this class would never likely even be exposed to Veritaserum in their lives. It would assumedly be through work. At least she hoped it would. Not that someone in this class was bound to become some sort of nasty criminal - except Elijah Urquart. She still wasn't sold on him. Regardless, though, she took her seat next to Cameron and Ned and started in on the potion pausing occasionally to scribble both the instructions and her commentary (some more academic than others) in her notebook.

Alcyone made note of what the professor was saying. NEWTs were still a whole year away for her but if she wanted to do superbly on them, she would need to be sure to store up on her knowledge. That was a bit hard though when she wasn't inclined towards being studious. Even so, she got started on her potion.

Leander made note of the professors words. He had some time before he would be having his own NEWT examinations but it would only do him good to study everything he could. Besides that, he tutored others in Potions so this would help give those students a leg up as well. Bid to begin his potion, he did so.

Admire all of you
But fire burns me too
Can't stop that disco getting through
Can't stop that disco wanting you.

Of all the potions they were to learn this year Wrath had been the most eager to learn this one. Despite the fact she couldn't go on to become an Auror as she hoped Wrath knew Veritaserum would still prove useful. What better way to track down criminals then having a way to ensure any suspects would tell the truth when questioned then dosing them with Veritaserum?

As most of the potions she tackled so far this year, this one proved to be very complicated. The antidote was also challenging as well, if the notes were any indication. She made sure to read the instructions and listened to Professor Valenduris carefully, not wanting to miss a thing.

When the time came to start the potion, she took a few extra minutes to reread the instructions before getting up to gather the ingredients she would need. It certainly was a complicated potion and she wanted to do as well on it as she could. Besides it never hurt to reread potion instructions before beginning, best way to avoid making mistakes.

Once she had her ingredients, she returned to her cauldron. Checking the instructions again, she prepared the ingredients then added them to the cauldron, giving the required wand waves and select stirs as instructed. So far things seem to be going well but at this stage she couldn't be sure. Not that she was prone to messing up potions, it was one class she did quite well on, unlike Transfiguration. She still regretted not getting a high enough grade to continue it into her NEWTs but there wasn't anything she could do about it now.
