M-UCAB | REP 6+ | BALL
What: Equinox Ball
Who: NPC Hosts: the Williams family, which consists of a respectable gentleman of leisure, his society wife, and three hapless sons of roughly marriageable age but apparently little inclination. (Are they cousins of the ghostly Williams who lives in Tycho Dodonus 's house? Perhaps) Society, broadly speaking, is invited.
Cost: No
Where: The Williams' family's estate in the country.
Why: Soph & Lynn's secret plots?
When: 22 September
A ball set on the fall equinox and celebrating all things fall, the ballroom will be illuminated with warm candlelight and decorated with wreaths of red, orange, and yellow leaves. Refreshments served are harvest-centric, such as apple tarts, miniature pumpkin pies, various ciders, etc. Mrs. Williams is a hobbyist horticulturist and has also added several of her living plants which are fall bloomers to the ballroom to show off. Anyone inclined to wander outside of the ballroom would encounter many other plants throughout the house — including some which may prove dangerous to unsuspecting passersby. Though in fairness to Mrs. Williams, only a rude guest would wander through a house during a ball, so you really deserved that.

MC/UCAB | REP 1-10 | Ballet
What: The final run of the ballet
Giselle
Who: Presented at the Enchanted Ballet of London, featuring London’s principal dancer Sophia Voss as titular role
Cost: Expensive enough that WC probably can’t attend. Cost varies on seats: lower MC can splurge , Upper MC can attend comfortably, UC can afford box seats or nicer seats by the orchestra pit (though best seats in the house – center boxes or mezzanine are reserved for regular patrons/donors).
Where: Enchanted Ballet of London
Why: For art! For culture! For money!
When: Final shows: Evening of Friday Sept 2, 3, and 4.
But! Assume the show has been running every weekend since May, if you want a backdate :)
the show:
this is a tragic love story of innocent love and betrayal (and a fabulous warning for precocious debutantes). The story opens with innocent peasant girl Giselle who enchants the audience, and a passing nobleman. She does a ridiculous turn sequence. The nobleman disguised as a peasant woos her and they are quickly engaged, despite his betrothal to another. A friend exposes the truth to Giselle, who dies because of course. She becomes a wilis: The wilis are ghostly apparitions of folklore, girls who have died betrayed by their faithless lovers on the eve of their weddings. Their favorite pastime is cursing men with endless dances until they die from exhaustion. When the nobleman comes to Giselle’s grave to grieve, the Queen of Willis commands Giselle to dance with him until he dies. Her spirit helps him survive their dance until the sunrise because love.
the experience:
Not all productions have the same fine print on the tickets, but Giselle does. 'Agreeable to mild and temporary intoxication for duration of performance and backstage entries' is a term of agreement printed on the back of tickets. Enchantments induced by a Dutch & Russian innovation in magic create a similar affect to a very mild Confundus Charm. It helps make guests more open-minded to take a flight of fantasy with the ballet, and better ignore the blights of the day before they arrived. The theater also employs many special effects with temperature, elements, sounds and smells to create a more complete immersion.
Light refreshments are available before the show and during intermission
Loud applause is encouraged. Balletomanes cheer like a sporting event for very technical pieces
requirements:
The ballet offers some child friendly productions, this is not one of them.
Heavily inebriated or poorly dressed guests are turned away at the door (with a voucher for ‘next time’ if they’re lucky).
parties:
At the end of the show regular patrons, donors, and friends of the ballet may be invited backstage to meet the cast and crew. Generally a tame affair (though many stay in costumes). Though there are rumors of very liberal late night after-parties on opening and closing weeks.
