So Jack's brought this up a few times now and I don't have an exact quote, but he keeps trying to sell me on this concept character who's an eternal side character. His idea for this is that the character would only take open threads, and they'd have this whole rich internal life and ongoing plots that are referenced in their narrative but never actually have threads. Basically their whole life happens offstage until they pop up in someone else's plotline for a minute. Like when you see Abed deliver a baby in the background of a scene in Community and it's just never addressed by the "main" characters ever. XD

Me: so here's my question, why are they teaching eleven year olds to light shit on fire?
Mike: I don't think they taught them. I think Hermione went rogue and learned it all herself. She showed up on her first day and said "i can fix glasses and I can light shit on fire. What side do you want to be on?"

Jack: You know what this character is missing that most characters like this have? A redeeming quality.
Lynn: Oh, that's not fair! He has plenty of nice qualities. I just haven't told you about them. He's funny, like witty. He's really intellectual. He likes magical theory and advanced mathematics for some reason. Like he thinks imaginary numbers are super cool.

Lynn: Yeah, but I think he needs something else. Like a hobby.
Jack: You just talked through The Existential Crisis of every thirty year old man. Career hasn't flourished the way he expected, feeling distant from his natal family but hasn't managed to start his own family. Oh shit, am I boring? I better get a hobby.
Lynn: Well. He is nearly thirty.
Jack: Yeah, but you're not a thirty year old man. I'm impressed you still hit the whole checklist.

Hubs: You have enough material, you all could do a series Terry Prachett style and publish a book every few months. Self publish to Amazon and split the royalties between the 20 of you.

Lynn: I'm a Gryffindor.
Jack: You are not! Gryffindor is the worst house. Gryffindor has no personality. It's the house of main characters.
Lynn: I didn't say it was a good house! But every time I take a quiz anywhere, on any site, they tell me I'm a Gryffindor.
Jack: Well, you're not. You're a Ravenclaw.
Lynn: Okay, then. But we did these quizzes and I was Gryffindor and you were Hufflepuff.
Jack: I was what?!

Lynn: ...no, not quite. So anyway, they were fighting and she pushed him and he slipped and fell down the stairs. But then he doesn't want her to go to jail and have her life ruined —
Jack: Wait, is your character staging his own death?
Lynn: Yes!
Jack: To protect his murderer?
Lynn: Yes!

-driving to dinner and the daffodils are in full bloom all around us, making me chuckle.
D: What?
B: I have a character named Daffodil and the flowers amuse me, her last name is Potts and everything.
D: Of course you do.
B: Yeah, she has a lot of sisters also named after flowers.
D: Oh like Rose and Daisy?
B: HA! no. It's like you don't know me at all. Calla, Dahlia, Zinnia, Thistle, Senna and Amaryllis.
D: Why?
B: Because I can?
D: Fair.

Today on the couch, me giggling like a school girl over Honeypotts:
D: You're having a good time over there.
B: I'm about to propose to my fictional girlfriend.
D: She should say no. Just for a change of pace. Wait are you the girl? You should say no.
B: No I'm the dude, I hope she doesn't say no!
D: Pity.
