Citrine got herself into a good position to cast the spell in. Taking a moment to close her eyes, she focused on how she had felt the first time that she had ever flew on a broom. The wonderful feel of the wind in her hair and being above the ground.. "Expecto Patronum.

PREVIOUSLY ON DADA:

Eldin had never succeeded at casting the patronus charm, but was determined to do so before he left school. He wasn't pursuing a career where the charm was necessary, but he didn't know one person who wasn't curious about what form their patronus would take. He imagined his would be something athletic and something masculine—or, in accordance with Spangle's theories, would it take the form of something soft and delicate? He couldn't be sure until he succeeded.

He tried to remember the day he received his head boy and quidditch captain badge. The summer before had been filled with such fear when his mother had disappeared during the Irvingly Expedition, so being able to present to her tokens of his success the next year was both an excitement and a relief.

"Expecto patronum!" he cast with confidence.

Nikolai's face was unreadable as he observed fewer sucesses of any sort than anticipated. As he made his way about the room, the professor corrected stance, enunciation, concentration, all the while encouraging the students to continue.

No dice. Cora attempted to relax her stance. Perhaps it was a matter of pronunciation? She was sure she'd gotten it right the first time...

As the thought passed her mind, she (quite literally) stood corrected as Professor Sleptov gave her the correct pronunciation - a few syllables she'd gotten wrong.

Perhaps this time, then. "Expecto Patronum!"

Another adjustment. Concentrate. And, "Expecto Patronum."

Perhaps it was her pronunciation. She took a deep breath, muttered the words a few times without the intention or focus of the memory, checked her stance, and, "Expecto Patronum."

Upon the lack of success, even a whisp would have been nice, he let his eyes slid shut and took a deep breath, calming the twinges of annoyance that had started to rise with his failure. Was his memory not enough? He couldn't think of anything else really. While he didn't have complaints about his life, it wasn't bad, he really couldn't think of many high points of joy. No his memory was surely fine if he could think of nothing but. Maybe then he wasn't putting enough attention into the spell. It was known for being a hard spell, and even if he was fairly good at charms, he couldn't let that go to his head on such a complicated spell. He cast the spell again, this time putting more of his attention into the intent.

After having her stance corrected, Citrine focused once more on her happy memory. She tried to really relive the moment in her mind. "Expecto patronum," she cast.

#25
Sage corrected his enunciation, repeating it in his head. Focusing back on his 'happy' memory, Sage attempted the spell once more.

More and more, students were showing some ability to produce at least something, but it was Miss Whitledge who proved the most successful: a non-corporeal cat had lept forth from the girl's wand tip. It was short-lived, as they often were at this stage, but undeiably had happened.

"Take ten points for Slytherin, Miss Whitledge," Nik directed, "and well done! The rest of you should note we have—" he glanced at his pocketwatch "—a quarter of an hour still remaining. This, I think, is more than enough time for a breakthrough!"

It was a start, but not yet good enough. She practiced saying the words a few times without actually attempting to cast the spell. Carefully analyzing the pronunciation. Then she readjusted her stance and took a deep breath. Concentrate, and, "Expecto Patronum."

#28
Looking around the room for a moment, she glanced at Miss Whitledge due to the girl's beginnings of success. Then she glanced at the professor briefly before another adjustment of her stance and once again, "Expecto Patronum."

It didn't feel like she was making any progress and the class was coming to an end. She curiously wondered to herself if they would be allowed to practice outside of class. She concentrated once more on her spell-casting. "Expecto Patronum," she cast. Hopefully this time would be a success.

#30
Cora gritted her teeth as Whitledge was rewarded points for producing a non-corporeal patronus. Of course it was the person who'd also succeeded in being an animagus too. She had to focus if she was going to get anywhere; at least Bones hadn't done better than she did this time.

Worrying about other people's successes wasn't going to get her anywhere, though the 6th year was hardly privy to that information let alone willing to accept it. "Expecto Patronum!"

Sage glanced Miss Whitledges way as she was rewarded points. Well, at least Germander hadn't succeeded. He refocused and tried again. "Expecto patronum."

SKILL: 4 because she's really good at dueling and the like, but I don't want her to be a special snowflake either. xD

PREVIOUSLY ON DADA:--

Seneca wouldn't need the Patronus charm in her spells inventory unless one of her relatives managed to get himself arrested as Uncle Tybalt had. The Lestranges alive at this period of time were either too timid (like Cash), too sensible to get arrested for any questionable hobbies, or Seneca couldn't immediately recall them, which meant that they were of little importance.

Perhaps Cousin Meta would get arrested, she was hot-headed and easily got into fights.

She wanted to master the Patronus charm because it was one of those things that showcased a witch's skills. It was no Wingardium Leviosa.

However, even though Seneca didn't doubt her spellwork skill, she was having difficulty focusing with everyone practicing around her.

Focusing on a time when her father had congratulated her on winning a chess game between the two, Seneca made her first attempt. "Expecto Patronum!"
