August 30th, 1888 — The Three Broomsticks, Hogsmeade

It was the last Sunday of the month, and Ava Gedge found herself squashed into a corner table, quietly waiting for her sister, Eliza, to arrive. It was their designated day to sit back and allow themselves to reconnect and catch up on what was going on in each other's lives. In particular, Ava was always eager to check in on her much younger sister.

Unfortunately for Ava, she had not received Eliza's owl, canceling their usual plans due to some sort of important business at work. The clock ticked past their agreed upon meeting time, and the woman inwardly squirmed. She put a lot of stock in punctuality, and it drove her crazy when others did not follow through. Her sister wasn't always on time, so she decided to wait it out and order a butterbeer in the meantime.

As she went to take a sip, someone unexpected slipped into the seat across from her. Without looking up, she smirked and sarcastically muttered, "About time. What? Did your knea--" She paused, eyes landing on someone who was decidedly not her sister. "Good evening?"

Open to anyone who sits at Ava's table.

Jacques tended to do his best not to come to Hogsmeade but he'd had business to attend to. He was hungry once his business had concluded and had decided to stop by the Three Broomsticks for a meal. He was just minding his own business and looking for an empty table when he saw him. His ex-lover. Ugh, he was not dealing with this today so he slipped down, out of sight into the nearest seat that he could find.

"Good evening. Don't mind me," Jacques said brusquely. "Just saw someone who I'd rather not deal with right now."

"As you wish."

Ava gestured to the seat, apparently unbothered that Jacques had decided to join her. It seemed her sister was likely not about to make an appearance, so the chair would go to waste either way.

Glancing behind the man, she gazed at a few of the people milling about, looking for someone who might be interested in Jacques, but she didn't immediately see anyone. With a slight smirk, she slid an abandoned copy of the Daily Prophet across the table toward him in case he would like to further hide his face.

Jacques and Ozias's parting had not been.. amicable. The other man was so rigid in his opinion that he had to honor his family name or some crap. Jacques had been too passionate to let that go easily. "Thank you," he said, snatching up the Daily Prophet with grateful hands. "I'm Jacques Michaud, by the way." Might as well introduce himself to his savior of the moment.

Ava leaned back and smiled when Jacques took the Prophet so he could better hide. She took another sip of her drink and glanced toward the door once more. She had all but abandoned the thought that her sister might actually show up.

Turning her attention to the man in front of her, she smiled, "Ava Gedge. It's a pleasure."

With a slight smirk she gestured with her head to the collection of people of people in the Three Broomstick. "Who is it that you're avoiding? If you don't mind me asking, of course." She was curious, after all. Perhaps, he just had a nosy relative.

Jacques didn't recognize the name but then again, he had no real reason to. "The tall blond," he offered. There was no missing Ozias. He still stole Jac's attention whenever he was in the room. Hopefully the woman wouldn't get more curious. It was hardly like he could say 'oh, he's my ex-lover' to a woman he had just met.

Ava eyed the man Jacques had indicated, and she looked him up and down. She wasn't sure she'd ever seen him before, so she merely nodded and turned back to the man in front of her. "Ah. Well, at least it looks as if he hasn't yet seen you."

She took another thoughtful sip of her butterbeer and questioned, quite bluntly, "You don't owe him money or anything, do you, Mr. Michaud?" The woman paused, and then set to elaborate. "I just like to be prepared in case we are in for any sort of trouble." She stated, as if she knew full well some of the things that could happen.

She hadn't caught on to the fact that they were ex-lovers, but she did seem to decide there was something more to the situation at hand.

Jacques nodded when the woman said that it seemed like Ozias hadn't seen him. "No, nothing like that," he replied when she asked if he owed Ozias money. "It's more a friendship that fell through but he isn't a violent soul if that's what you're worried about." He was one of the gentlest men he knew aside from certain instances that Jacques didn't mind at all.

Ava nodded along to the man's explanation, seeming a bit relieved that there likely wouldn't be any trouble. That is the last place she wanted to find herself without just cause.

"Ah, so it would be an awkward meeting. Perfectly understandable. Sometimes those are worse." Ava commented, sounding as if she knew full well what Jacques was likely going through.

"Feel free to share my table for however long you wish."

#10
"Indeed," Jacques agreed. He had a couple of scorned lovers in his past but even those would be better than running into Ozias again. Especially since there had still been a strong love between them when they had decided to part. So there was intense hurt that came along with it as well. "Thank you. I will try not to take up too much of your time," he chuckled when the woman said he could sit there as long as he wished.

Ava inclined her head, "Not a problem. I believe the company I have been waiting for has been detained, anyhow." At least, that's what she assumed of her sister. She would send an owl inquiring what exactly had happened once she left the Three Broomsticks.

#12
"Oh, how unfortunate," he said sympathetically when the woman said that her expected company seemed to have been detained. Her loss was his gain, it seemed. "I figure I'll just order a meal and then get the heck out of here."
