August 10th, 1888 - Ollivander’s Wands; London
Ace had never thought that he would be the main one to take Sybille to get her first wand. It was strange, and he wasn't to sure how he felt. Though he was excited to see this milestone of his little sister, he felt that mother and father really should be here. But they needed to get on with their lives. Time would heal them, hopefully. Now he kept a big smile on his face and watched as Sybille entered the shop before he followed. If Avril hadn't gotten herself into trouble, she would certainly be here as well. But Ace could not simply allow for her actions to go without consequence. To be fair, that did make him sad that his closest sister had gotten herself into this. What was worse was that she also came down with malaria, she could have died. The very thing that had made Ace not want her to go. So much family drama, and Ace was getting really tired of it.

Deciding to ignore these thoughts, he continued to try to remain happy over the occasion itself. What kind of wand would she leave with? Perhaps one with a phoenix feather, like he had. Or pine wood like Avril? Perhaps she would have a wand that was unlike anyone in their family. Aside from Fleur. He could certainly imagine that she would have a similar wand to their cousin. This made him wonder what her house would be when the time came. Hufflepuff seemed like the most likely house. Any of the other houses simply did not sound like they would be her cup of tea. He could definitely imagine her sneaking away to the kitchens of Hogwarts with several other students. Sadly, he would not be there to see whatever she ended up getting herself into. Letters were certainly going to be a must. Looking around the shop, he remembered getting his own wand. It had not been as chaotic as some of his siblings. Was it two or three wands that he had gone through before finding the one he had now? Hopefully there wouldn't be too much chaos today. "Ready to get your first wand?" He asked his sister.

To say that Sybille was excited to go to Hogwarts was a vast understatement. She was beyond excited. Way beyond excited! Every day she thought of some new question for her siblings regarding the school. “When is curfew?” “Is dinner good?” “Will they serve pudding every night?” “Will I get lost?” To the point that her older siblings seemed to be losing their tolerance with her. Especially Jolie. So she’d taken to saving them for Ace. After all he was the oldest of them and had just graduated from school, she supposed he ought to know best of all. Besides he seemed much more patient with the questions than the others. But she still hadn’t asked some of the most important ones. Some of the scariest ones. Would she be able to bake at Hogwarts? Instead she kept those to herself until she could find the right time.

Skipping along beside Ace as they made their way through Diagon Alley Sybille kept these questions to herself. There were other more exciting things happening today. She could barely contain her excitement for today, today was the day she finally got her wand. She’d be a real witch then. She could do all sorts of things with a wand and her siblings wouldn’t be able to call her little or child anymore. Besides, she wasn’t the baby anymore. Roselle was. Getting her wand would remind her siblings of this.

When they reached the shop Ace opened the door and Sybille gleefully entered. “Absolutely!” She chirped as they entered the interior of the store. It was dimmer than she had expected with walls and walls of small boxes, her eyes widened. She hadn’t known how many choices there would be. She did know that she didn’t have to pick, but she didn’t quite understand how. “How will he find me a wand with all of these?” She whispered to her brother, hoping the owner of the store wouldn’t hear her, her eyes anxiously looked up at her brother for the first time since they had left their home her worry and awe appeared on her face and doubt seemed to trickle into her stomach.

Ten minutes. Ten minutes were all Gervaise had managed to sneak in his workroom, barely enough time to get his tools in line. He had spent the morning matching youngsters to their first wands, and had hoped that noon-time would bring with it a lull. Plainly, the wizard thought as he heard the tell-tale tinkle of the bell above the door, that was not to be the case. With a wry smile in Reid’s direction, the wandmaker rose to his feet and returned to the storefront, shirtsleeves still rolled up to just below his elbow—the evidence of how he had expected to spend the afternoon.

“Good day,” he greeted amicably, but not with an overabundance of enthusiasm. Gervaise Ollivander did not do enthusiasm, not unless the customer earned it with a genuine interest in his life’s work. He did, however, do friendly, for friendly meant happy customers, and happy customers certainly paid the bills.

“Here for a wand, or have we come altogether to the wrong shop?”

Unlike most of their siblings, Ace wasn't bothered by the never ending questions. Poor Jolie had started becoming hesitant spending time with him due to the fact that Sybille would come over any minute to ask another question. If he thought about it enough, it was quite amusing. Especially given the fact that Jolie had been almost as bad simply two years prior. Then again, Jolie had always seen Sybille as odd. Both were quite a pair at times. It seemed as though Ace needed to find a way to duplicate himself so they didn't have to share him! Even though they had been close, he remembered how much mother had wished that Sybille wasn't so fond of the kitchen. In a way, he did understand the reasoning. Those of their status did not go into baking. Perhaps as a hobby at the most, though not as often as Sybille was caught in the kitchen. On the other hand, his sister was quite passionate over the matter. He wouldn't wish to ruin that for her. It was better than the passion he had for his own career. This summer, he had felt so useless over all of the chaos.

Not only were they going to be getting her wand today, they would be getting a new pet for her to take to school. Though he personally couldn't see her getting a toad, she was always full of surprises. He hoped that she would get an owl, so it would be easier to write to him over summer. A cat would make a lovely companion for her as well. Though she may be too energetic for the poor creature. If only he could see her at school, as he did with Jolie.

As he watched his sister enter, he was glad to see her so cheerful. Hopefully it would be her only wand. Wands did choose their wizards and witches, and a connection like that was important. There were so many boxes, which did not surprise Ace one bit. Though it did seem to make an impact on Avril. "In a way, the wand will choose you. It's really a matter of seeing which one works best with you." He said, hoping that made sense. Surely the owner would explain better. He smiled at his little sister with confidence and kindness. Looking up at the voice, he gave a friendly smile of his own. "Good day to you as well. We are here to purchase a wand for my little sister." He responded politely, gesturing to Sybille when he mentioned her.

Ace’s answer did little to quell Sybille’s anxiety, she understood but there were just so many boxes. However, she couldn’t fret any further for the shop owner appeared before them. She’d just have to trust that this man could find her a wand.

The wrong shop? Her eyes widened slightly and she gave him a small smile as Ace explained that they were most certainly here for her wand.

“If the young miss will step forward and hold out her arms?” Gervaise directed, pulling the measuring tape from around his neck.

Sybille stepped away from Lukeson with a polite, “Yes sir.” Dutifully she held her arms out, watching his tape measure. No one had told her she’d need to be measured. If the wand picked her why did it matter how long her arms were?

Gervaise made all the appraisals and measurements necessary before disappearing into the shelves, returning a few minutes later with four wand boxes. With any luck, one of them would suit the youngster.

“Try this one first,” he instructed, eyes focused not on his customer but on the wand he slid from its box. “Mahogany, nine inches precisely, with a phoenix tail feather at its core.”

The rigid wand featured some intricate vine carvings on and around the grip. Gervaise handed it to her.

“Give it a wave.”

Measurements completed the gentleman walked into the backroom and Sybille looked back at her brother for reassurance. At the sound of the man returning she found he only had four boxes. Again her worry gnawed at her, what if one of the four didn’t work? What if they spent all day trying and couldn’t find a wand at all.

The gentleman brought the wand out of the box. It was pretty and sounded very fancy and mature. Sybille liked that. She walked up to the gentleman’s counter and gave him what she hoped was a mature smile to match, but likely it looked tentative. She grasped the wand and turned away from the gentleman to give it a swish for that seemed like the practical thing - and Avril had told her it would be expected during Sybille’s questioning. Besides, didn’t one swish a wand when using it anyway?

Well. This was a first. Perhaps not in all of history, but for Gervaise certainly. Unusual thought it was, though, the wand and its wielder glowed with the soft light of success, and the wandmaker knew he had found her the right match on the first go.

"Well, this is unusual," Gervaise remarked with surprise, "but it seems we've already found the one!"

Ace had been watching with excitement for his little sister. It was truly a special moment when one found their first wand. Phoenix feather! Just like he had, that was exciting. It was a bit more fancy that his own. He didn’t mind that.

Watching as the wand and his sister both glowed, his eyes widened in shock. That never happened to any of his siblings. He would have remembered his parents talking about it if that were the case. It seemed that this wasn’t common, as the gentleman stated that this was unusual. Then it sparked the memory of what his granmother has said on more than one occasion. Her prediction with Sybille as a powerful witch. Was this a sign?

The wand glowed in her and grip, Sybille’s eyes widened. Were to hands glowing too? Was that normal? It felt right though holding the wand, as if she could do anything, or perhaps more like having a best friend. A grin crossed her lips. She liked this wand.

The gentleman behind the counter seemed to think it somewhat unusual. Although given his words it seemed her worries about not finding a wand were unfounded, even if it was not normal to find it with the first one you held. The grin spread wider across her lips as she hugged the wand to her. “Really, sir?” She looked up to him with eager eyes, excitement evident. She had a wand!

After a moment, he looked at the gentleman. "What does this mean, if anything?" He asked. Perhaps the wand maker would know. Sometimes seers were wrong, but this had always seemed as if it had been quite a powerful prediction. He was not going to take it lightly.

He smiled reassurance at the youngster before raising a critical eyebrow in answer to her brother.

"It means she has a wand," Gervaise clarified, he thought unnecessarily.

She had her own wand, her own. Sybille grinned and hugged the wand to her. “Thank you sir!” She told him with a grin, suddenly not shy at all. “Ace,” She began turning to her brother, “Can we go show Avril and the others now?” She asked eagerly. Especially Jolie who would be jealous of the beautiful wand.

Choosing the man's tone, Ace elected to think more on the matter for only a brief moment. Perhaps grandmother would be willing to discuss this with him. Smiling down at Sybille, he nodded to her statement. "Of course we can." He paid the man for the wand before guiding his sister out of the shop.
