Welcome to Charming, where swirling petticoats, the language of flowers, and old-fashioned duels are only the beginning of what is lying underneath…
After a magical attempt on her life in 1877, Queen Victoria launched a crusade against magic that, while tidied up by the Ministry of Magic, saw the Wizarding community exiled to Hogsmeade, previously little more than a crossroad near the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the years that have passed since, Hogsmeade has suffered plagues, fires, and Victorian hypocrisy but is still standing firm.
Thethe year is now 1894. It’s time to join us and immerse yourself in scandal and drama interlaced with magic both light and dark.
THEY'VE SUSPENDED QUIDDITCH! You can't cancel quidditch! There's nothing to look forward to in this crazy fog! I realize that Hogsmeade couldn't practice, but certainly there's somewhere else for them to go! Rufus has been staying in London with his whole team so he could still play! Now he's stuck there!
I hope you're having a nice summer all fog and fancy free!
I've heard! It's just terrible. When I thought my summer couldn't get any more boring, they've canceled the only part of the magical world I can participate in while away from Hogwarts!
I hope your brother's doing well. I've met the wizard that married my mother during the school year and he's just dreadful. He gives his own children more lenience than me—and my mother doesn't even care!
Oh no! This summer is just dreadful. I'm very trapped, Mother won't let me outside too much because of the fog. Not even in the back garden! It's going to make me go crazy!
I hope your mum comes around soon, it's not fair of them to act like that. Hopefully this summer will go quickly- never thought I'd be saying that! I cannot wait for tryouts in September. Rufus was supposed to be helping me practice, but now we're far apart and I can't even practice that much! I'll have to put in some serious time on the pitch our first week back.
Don't worry, once school starts again I'll take you to the pitch personally so we can practice together. I wish I could say I've had much time to fly so during the summer, but being in a village with muggles makes doing so difficult.
I've only been to Hogsmeade a few times, so I'm looking forward to getting to visit during the weekends!
What position do you think you'll try out for? Chaser might be your best bet—I think you'd work well with Miss Bell and I—but you might do well taking Whitledge's position as keeper.
Really? That would be wonderful! Thank you! I'm sure once the fog clears Rufus will help me out as best he can, but it's so hard when you can't even see the end of your broom. I can't imagine how it must be like that for you all the time. You'll have to come visit sometime and we can race around the backyard!
It's really lovely here, when there's no fog that is, Honeyduke's was demolished by a troll though! It's so bad! I hope it's back up before school so you can visit there, it's so much fun. There's a lot of fun things to do here, kind of like Diagon Alley, but more.
I think chaser is my best bet, but Rufus says I'm built like a seeker. With Miss Browne there though, I clearly won't get to try out for that. I think I'm too little for keeper?
It's funny how a single letter can make me feel such jealousy! Godric's Hollow has a small but sure magical population, but muggles also live here. It definitely does not have the allure of Hogsmeade and all-magical places like Diagon Alley!
I'll definitely visit one of these days. Third year means I'll be able to participate in Hogsmeade weekends, so perhaps I'll find the time to explore the village some more. I've been there dreadfully few times for a wizard.
And you never know—it's always possible that Miss Browne could take up a different position. It's not all that unheard of: if a player cannot secure the position that's not the one they desire, they sometimes switch when the opportunity presents itself. We're going to have to rebuild the team anyways now that MacFusty and Whitledge gone.
You're more than welcome any time, Ma says. It's always been funny to me that everybody looks forward to the Hogsmeade weekends, but I suppose when you don't live here, they must be fun! I'm sure when I get to go I'll think the same. There's something to be said about getting out of school for the day, at any rate.
You think Miss Browne would switch? I always thought she was tall enough for beater or keeper. I guess I'll have to keep my eye out for sign ups to see what's open. I'm holding you to the training help in the first week however!
You must remember that I'm muggle-born as well! To see a castle of magic is one thing; to see an entire village where magic fills the streets is another situation entirely.
I think Miss Browne wants to pursue a career in professional quidditch, and she'd be smart to switch to beater if she does. Apart from the Harpies, many teams are already unenthusiastic about having ladies playing for them, but I imagine even fewer are willing to take a woman of her stature as a seeker. She's taller than many men who play as professional seekers!
