The Call

This could easily be considered addictive. Never in her life, had she even considered courting, let alone something like this. Apparently she'd been missing out. There was an undeniable pull toward him that she was having a hard time sorting or resisting. There was something so exhilarating about feeling wanted. That was it, that was what had propelled her forward again; Eva was ever the daredevil, a thrill-seeker and this had such a wonderful adrenaline rush to it.

Still very much out of her depth, she'd felt the tone of the kiss change, that much was evident, it was electric, no hesitation now. Not like the first one. That had just been testing the waters, now she was in over her head and clinging desperately for some kind of salvation. He deepened the kiss and Eva hummed out a quiet little sound of approval, though was hardly aware of just how or why.

After another moment, she felt like she could come up for air and managed to pull back. Gently she framed his face with her hands and breathed out a little breathless sigh. "Sorry, I don't know what came over me." She had to guess he didn't mind, but she also didn't want to rush anything either.

The kiss had been...Fletcher didn't really know if he could put words to it. The best he'd experienced, surely. Probably because it actually meant something. He wanted more if he were being truly honest but he knew that wasn't something allowed and he certainly would not push her to that point. Red blooded male he may be, he was still a gentleman. But clearly, by her sigh and breathless sort of tones, she had enjoyed it as much as he had.

He hummed in response initially, enjoying the feel of her hands on his face as he smiled down at her. "I can assure you that I certainly did not mind," he said, still grinning and with an almost wicked glint in his eyes.

While she tried to get her wits about her, Eva slid her hands away from his face gently, letting them slip down to his chest. That skin on skin contact was distracting. But oh that grin of his too. Just a hint of a wicked glint, it made her weak in the knees.

What was happening to her?

Definitely falling, what else could it be? Eva bit her lip as she looked up at him through her lashes. She contemplated kissing him again, when the smoke hit her nose. Eva sprang back and rushed to the oven, flinging it open in dismay. "No! Oh no!" In the haze of distraction, she'd completely misjudged the time for dinner. It was literally on fire and Eva reached automatically for her wand on the nearby counter to extinguish the flames.

Ruined, totally ruined, she could just about cry.

Fletcher had felt another kiss coming. Or perhaps he had just been hoping for another one. Until the smell of smoke hit them both and she was moving faster than he could react himself. He watched, almost dumbly as she worked to extinguish the flames. She looked almost as if she were going to break down or something. It hit him hard and had him moving in an instant.

He came up next to her with a hand sliding along the small of her back before rubbing up to her shoulders in a sympathetic and comforting sort of motion. "I'm sorry," he said softly to her, his blue eyes fell to her, "It's okay though. We can figure something else out." He just hoped she wasn't angry with him about it all. He had gotten them started with the kissing after all.

What a disaster! What in the name of Merlin's beard was she supposed to do now?

Frustrated more than anything else Eva suddenly felt Fletcher next to her, trying to soothe the situation. "No, no. I'm sorry. I got... distracted." The following laugh was wry and bitter as she stared at the ruined roast with a scowl. Of course she'd ruin it, just like she'd managed to ruin the soda bread. Now they had nothing to eat at all! What a dinner this was turning out to be. Maybe it would just be better if she let Mrs. Sweeney cook next time.

Letting out a little whine of frustration, Eva turned to face Fletch, head hung in defeat. Clearly she was good marriage material. What had she been thinking!? "Now what?" While she was being pessimistic, she didn't exactly think he'd abandon her now, but all they had was wine and... maybe some fruit... Eva's wheels were already turning. "Wait, I think I can fix this." She pressed a quick kiss to his cheek and started moving around the kitchen to collect what she wanted. It certainly wouldn't be as good as the original, but maybe she could salvage the evening.

Fletcher really didn't like to see her in such a state. Had he not initiated the kiss, no matter how much they had been enjoyed, he'd caused her to forget about the dinner she'd been preparing for them. He stood there silent and rubbing get back in as comforting a way as he possibly could quite unsure of what to say.

He didn't really have a chance to respond though before he saw her eyes focus as she clearly began to think of what to do. He smiled at the kiss pressed to his cheek before she began moving about and doing what it was she thought would fix the situation. He retreated to his seat at the little table with the glass of wine all but forgotten in all there activities. He sipped on it though quickly thought it wasn't near as sweet as the kisses that had been shared while he watched her busy herself in the kitchen again.

Determined not to let this ruin the night, Eva scurried around the kitchen, pulling things from cabinets and the ice box as she moved around to collect what she wanted. It certainly wouldn't be a full dinner per ce, but it would do. It may have even been a little more her in the long run than a fancy full meal.

Glancing at the table where Fletcher sat, Eva placed a large wooden serving platter on the island and started to assemble their little meal. She found a couple different cheeses, cut up some nice bread Mrs. Sweeney had on the counter, there were some grapes and some strawberries. "I'll be right back." She promised as she disappeared through the swinging door to the sitting room on the far side of the kitchen.

Once there she grabbed one of the throw blankets on the chair and some of the pillows from the sofa. This could still be cozy and relaxed, even though she was still upset and a little embarrassed about her dinner fiasco, this had all the potential to be a nice replacement. Taking the long way around the kitchen, Eva skipped out the back door and tossed the blanket and pillows down on a soft patch of grass in the backyard. It was still light enough for a little picnic in the back garden where nobody could see them or bother them. Thank goodness for tall hedges.

Popping back into the kitchen, she put a couple of small plates on the tray and picked it up carefully. "Grab the wine and follow me." She chirped, pleased with herself for the quick recovery.

Fletcher continued to watch her. He probably should have offered to help but he had a feeling she'd have simply waved him off as it was. She was clearly a woman on a mission and he wasn't about to interrupt that. A brow was raised as she disappeared from the kitchen though and he couldn't help but to wonder what she was really up to.

He had just finished the glass of win he had when she came back in and told him to grab the wine and follow her. He smiled at her, happy to see she was back into a better mood despite the fiasco. A mock salute was given though with the grin as he grabbed the bottle and their two glasses to follow her out of the kitchen and into the small back gardens.

"You really know how to turn things around in a bind," he said with a nod of appreciation at the little picnic laid out for them. He etched a bow for her toward the blanket though and motioned do it, "Ladies first."

Chuckling at his chivalry, Eva nudged the back door with her hip and skipped down the steps as carefully as she could so she neither fell or dropped anything. Eva would not have been able to handle two disasters in one night. "Lots of practice thinking on my feet." She assured him as she placed the tray down in the middle of the blanket and folded herself and her massive skirts onto one side, leaving him plenty of room to sit beside her.

"Sorry it's not anything fancy, but at least it's something?" She cast him a sheepish smile. Merlin knew what she was going to do with that roast she ruined... Maybe she'd take it to the zoo tomorrow and feed it to the winged tiger, that would be a good idea. She'd have to hide it from Mrs. Sweeney though and lie through her teeth about how delicious it had come out.

Once she had situated herself on the blanket, Fletcher took a seat next to her. One arm held him up from behind but was angled behind her some. He was perhaps too close but all things considered, he doubted she'd mind. He was quite comfortable as it was and actually enjoyed the more laid back setting she'd presented him with. Not that the little table in the kitchen hadn't already been laid back. But truly, he enjoyed the simple things in life and this was about as simple as it could get.

"If I'm being honest, I think I prefer this," he said with a nod, blue eyes moving to look out at the setting sun, "This is far more comfortable and I'm not used to big fancy meals anyways." It was actually a rare occasion to actually have a full meal for himself. The only time it happened was when he had time to go to his family's home.

Breathing out a sigh of relief, Eva smiled at him gratefully and reached for her wine. "I agree." She felt that little jolt of excitement shoot through her blood when he settled so close to her. It was frighteningly easy to get comfortable like this with him. She felt incredibly lucky.

Snatching her wand off the tray, Eva cast a spell that would light the lanterns in the gardens before leaning forward again to pluck a strawberry off the tray. In all her hurry to try and get everything ready for the original meal, it had actually been a while since she'd eaten.

Letting out a soft sigh of contentment, she nudged him gently with her shoulder as she sat back. "Thank you." She murmured, not sure for what exactly. Maybe it was for being flexible with the dinner, for their tentative plans, for being patient with her, for a lot of things really, despite the fact that she didn't really know how to express it. It really meant a lot to her that he was willing to move at her pace and put her comfort ahead of anything else.

Fletcher was actually quite content with the calm silence around them. London was nothing like Irvingly. It was always loud there no matter where you were or what time of day it was. But in Irvingly, one could really sit back and enjoy the silence. There was, of course, the sounds of nature to contend with but that was more like a harmony than what London had to offer. He really quite enjoyed it and found himself pondering a change of scenery. Surely with his recent promotion, he could afford a new home. He was quite good about saving with his money as it was so he surely had enough stashed away from something.

Her thanks brought him out of his reverie though and he shifted his gaze to look down at her, a look of contentment on his face. "Anytime," he answered simply, though he wasn't quite sure what she was thanking him for. Instead, he brought a hand up to trail a finger gently down her cheek. "It's been a lovely evening," he said simply, not taking his gaze off of her.

Feeling her cheeks flush, Eva's breath caught in her throat when he looked at her. Merlin damn him for being able to do that to her! She felt that same rush as before as he brushed his fingers across her cheek, like a silly school girl who was completely head over heels. Maybe she was? Eva wasn't sure what it felt like, but it had to be close to this.

"You've got an incredible knack for making me blush, you know that?" She mumbled, wide blue eyes watching him closely, wondering just what he was thinking. Shifting her position to look at him a little better, she hesitantly reached out, mirroring his movements, as she laid a hand gently on his cheek sliding it down so she could run her thumb slowly over his jaw. It was a little too easy to get wrapped up in him, at the feeling of his hands on her skin, all the new sensations and emotions keeping her reeling from one moment to the next.

At this rate they wouldn't even get to eat!

Fletcher couldn't help the widening of his grin. He liked seeing her in such a state. It was the real her, the one that he'd fallen for. Not that she'd ever been anything but real with him but it was clearly unknown territory for her. He was glad he got to be the one to help her through it even if such a thing was fairly unknown to him as well. Never before had he felt for someone the ways he felt for her. Surely there was only one way to go for them and that was up.

"I quite like you when you blush," he answered simply, "Though I don't know that it's possible for you to ever be any more beautiful than you already are." And that, he truly meant, just before he leaned down to close the distance between them and to kiss her again. Just as sweet as before but with a hint of strawberry thanks to her little bite she'ed managed before.

Eva scrunched up her nose at his tease of a compliment. This was not who she was as person, some smitten girl who was easily flattered into blushing. She was an independent, working woman who could very well take care of herself. This was however, some kind of happy medium; she supposed she could blend the two for him.

Following his lead, Eavan felt that skip of her heartbeat as he kissed her again. There was a hint of wine, mixed with strawberry and it was incredibly intoxicating. She was woefully new to this- having honestly received her first kiss back in the kitchen not too long ago, but it felt all too natural, too easy to follow as she abandoned her empty wine glass on the blanket along with the momentarily forgotten food. She brought her free hand to run her fingers through his hair, coming to rest at the back of his neck as she pulled him closer.

Who needed food when kisses could be had? Fletcher certainly didn't and the fact she was so receptive to his kisses only helped. He had been wary of pushing her too far but it was quickly becoming apparent that she didn't mind. He wouldn't push it any further than that. At least, he'd planned not to. Until she had pulled him closer to her and threw his balance off just enough to where he found himself falling toward her. Cause he'd already fallen for her forever ago.

He couldn't help the light chuckle that left his lips though he didn't break their kiss. He managed to prop himself up somewhat over the top of her so he wasn't squishing her into the ground but his other hand stroked up her cheek again to thread his fingers into her hair as best he could. His lips parted with the kiss again to taste more of the sweet strawberries and wine, quite enjoying the close proximity once more.
