Kate had to wiggle the edges of his kite inward a bit to force it through the tangle of string, but she managed to pull it through the other side. The knot wasn't entirely undone, but she was starting to see how it might be untangled. Instead of a small, tight wad of string, it had become several large loops.

"A spell might be faster," Kate said, frowning at the kites. "Here — hold these a minute," she said, handing both kites to the younger boy and turning to dig her wand out of a small handbag. She was entirely unaware of England's restriction on the use of underaged magic.
