Her efforts to convince him she was worthy of this position were silly. Firstly, he didn't seemed to really care what she did despite engaging her in this conversation; secondly, he'd spent most of the conversation offering little more than fear-mongering; and thirdly, he wasn't her boss, nor was his name going to who she listed as a reference at her next position once the research was completed.
She could not, however, shake the desire to prove herself nonetheless—he was a MacFusty, and he was her boss' brother. Though it was unlikely, ill words from Mr. Jamie could see her cast to out onto the streets once more!

"I'm a bit of a wildcard, you know—probably more difficult to handle than those dragons." It was obvious that her words were no more serious than light banter.
