Mr. Darrow —
Oh I should think Charity belongs in a category unto herself, and I do mean that with all the affection I have. Do trust me on this Mr. Darrow, as elaborating might lead to explanations about past encounters with her which might give you even more cause for alarm!
Very well then, I shall inform you since you asked. Like I said, children can teach us just as much as we teach them and it’s certainly a universal truth when one is involved in pedagogy. Of course position of matron also must take quite a bit of confidence in oneself to dole out advice, so do forgive any boasting that you might witness in my explanation. But I do enjoy giving advice to those who are willing and eager to hear it. I think it’s also a great privilege to be trusted with such a responsibility as this.
I like being able to be depended upon, even if not all students might seek to utilize my services. Adolescence is a turbulent event to go through (though please don’t insult me by asking if my knowledge is based off personal or professional experience!) and it’s a privilege to be able to be a guide to them during this time. I must admit that a lot of the advice I give is something that I myself as a young girl could have benefited greatly from.
I wish Mrs. Darrow a speedy recovery for her eventual delivery, and for another healthy baby under your roof!
I would absolutely love to visit anytime you both are free, Mr. Darrow, thank you so much for the kind invitation.
Yours,
Louisa Clearwater
