He said sternly as if speaking to a student he was about to give detention to, though he was quiet enough to not upset the animal in some way.

The fact that this boy had acted as if Jeremy hadn't moved one inch until being shoved was even more insulting than being called an idiot. The fact was, he had moved the moment he had spoken to the woman, listening promptly to what she said. Being accused of doing anything less was implying that he had no brains at all. And thus, it seemed that more than one person felt this way. What was the world coming to, with people saying things without actually looking at the full situation.
