Ruth has been through a lot but that’s life, and life is meant to be enjoyed; so she does. She is mischievous and youthful in spirit, with the wisdom taught by time and age and hardship. A skilled healer and a newcomer from the across the pond, she is facing her new job at Hogwarts (started in Winter of '91) with her usual determination and wicked smirk.

• Colleagues || Ruth enjoys her colleagues and does not shy away from chatting with them; she enjoys giving out advice to younger members of staff and sharing tales of youthful experiences with other, older staff as well. She’s not one for formalities for the majority, so except that typical American nonsense and way of thinking; do feel free to drop by the infirmary any time – this old bat does occasionally get lonely.
  
  
• Students || Dirt, scrapes and scraps are just part of growing up! That being said, Ruth lives on campus and is always available to help youngsters in need; except a wink and a fondly exasperated talk about safety but she’s not the type to scold the students for injuries caused by living life to the fullest. She likes to be a reliable force in the children’s lives (and that may or may not have to do with nostalgia regarding raising her nephew). However, injuries from fighting other students? Maliciously dealt pains? The victim’s attacker better watch their step– this is not an old aunty you want to cross.
  
  
• Friends || Having just migrated here from across the pond as well as just moving from London, Ruth doesn’t have many friends. But she’s an exceedingly amiable person and isn’t afraid to make any!
  
  
• Fellow Animagus || While she doesn’t necessarily introduce this fact, Ruth also doesn’t actively try to hide she is an animagus either; after all, she’s registered with two different governments regarding the fact, so why shouldn’t she get to use it and enjoy it whenever she wants? Besides, it's all she has left of her first love. Would love to meet some other animagi -- as most of the ones she heard of (and the one she met) were Native Americans -- and compare stories.

Ewart Fraser is an eccentric historian/charms enthusiast who lives with his wife and kids in Irvingly. Is also mischievous and youthful in spirit, so if they met they might get along!

I would love Ruth to have some friends her age; MacKay and her would have a lot in common but Fraser's enthuasism for life would thrill her to bits! It's a tough decision xD She'd hand out a small lecture or two, but wouldn't really discourage young James from living life -- and living life comes with scrapes and bruises; would probably just remind him to be mindful of his limits (something something unhappy something lecturing threats of uncomfortable healing if this continues lol)

Hi! I have frequent flier Sloane Bixby she's constantly injured somehow from quidditch or just being generally clumsy.

Mason Skeeter is the herbology professor and probably also injured often, be but I also imagine they work together on potions ingredients etc too!

I have asshole headmaster Phineas Black but he's pretty useless xD

Eavan Miller is the aforementioned daughter of MJ's Conall!

I have Meserimus Valenduris who is the Slytherin HoH and potions prof - he's ancient and will probably treat her in a rather fatherly way. His brother lives with him in the castle, who is stuck in his animagus form after trying an amended transformation which would let him retain the power of speech - so now he is a talking owl who lives with Meserimus.


In terms of students - I have Yuri Podsnapper - a rambunctious, former pick pocket who is actually like 25, because someone turned him to stone for 15 years. He is desperate to make the quidditch team and is 'training' hard but also likely to hurt himself in the trying.

Ah, quidditch, the sport that will keep healers in business forever x3 That aside, Ruth would always be happy to treat dear Sloane (she's quietly very liberal-minded for a Southern Belle) because she supports the young witch's hopes to be a Holyhead Harpy. Would love to encourage her further

With Mason, I could see them discussing potion ingredients and maybe even tending to plants class and/or nursing purposes?

Ruth wouldn't know what to do with someone like Meserimus if he was fatherly towards her; her father, God rest his soul, was not... terrible but neglectful, especially after her mother's death. Ngl it'd be adorable to see <3

Ruth wants me to inform you that Yuri sounds like a lamb and is welcome to come by the hospital wing for any hurt with minimum lectures expected (as long as he doesn't pinch anything from her stores and such around the wing)

Halloo!! I have Edelweiss here as my youngun who needs a little guidance. She's an emerging seer and long story short, she hasn't figured out her abilities yet. But she's a little scared and the last time she had a vision it was during the day time (they usually come to her as dreams) and she collapsed in the great hall. She managed to convince someone to not call her father (Faustus Prewett) but would Ruth be someone to follow up with Ada? If not, she could also have another vision and collapse again to warrant a visit to the nurse xD


I also have @"Adrienne Selwyn" who's a 7th year! She's also french so I imagine meeting someone American and Southern would also be charming for her. She likes archery and is very good at it, but I could also see her potentially injuring herself. I could alsooo see her bringing her injured cat to Ruth to ask for help even though she's not a vet >.>

Ida is pretty ruthlessly pursuing extensive research on Animagus transformations so if she catches wind of that little factoid from Madam White she might need to prepare for... all the questions. So many questions. Egads it'll feel like she's writing a thesis (which she is). <3 Ida will be pursuing magical records of Animagi soon so she might find this out on her own.

Besides this they might have some history with her student antics. Two scenarios: Ida was really truly depressed years 3-5 especially, she's notoriously peakish and maybe had some physical symptoms of her depression at the time. No secret she lost her mom tragically. Alternatively, she's a throw-yourself-into-the-deep-end kind of girl when it comes to magical practice. I'll see if I could think of something that can come up as an experienced year seven (don't worry, she still does a lot of stuff she shouldn't be), but I'm sure there's some history here where Ida's experiments led her to like, accidentally deboning her left arm or something. xD

hiya! I have Constance Sykes who is the Slytherin Matron at Hogwarts, another muggleborn spinster and former governess who has a lot of Opinions about women's education and will therefore probably really like Ruth!

I also have Gretchen Lestrange who is the current Head Girl and unlikely to be injured herself but might need to seek her out to check up on younger students soon! Otherwise I can make her sick, I have that power :P

Oooooh I would love for someone to take such an enthusiastic interest in Ruth being an animagus! She would take the interest in stride too, but she's not going around telling others about it, so unless Ida ran across her changing forms, she would have to find it on the registration. That being said, would love to do a thread with the two regarding this anytime <3 Unfortunately, Ruth has only worked as the nurse since the Winter of '91.

Ruth and Constance would definitely get along! Ruth is quietly liberally minded in the sense of "if you don't ask, I won't tell" but if Mrs. Sykes brought up such a subject she would most definitely lend her own Opinions on the matter!
